What's New... has a new look and more coverage of what's new in learning assistance and especially what's new that is relevant to learning support centers in higher education. What's New will be covering 5 areas of interest: People, Conferences, LSCHE News, Recent Publications, and Technology.

People: News about Learning Support Center Personnel

Alan Craig, Coordinator-Instructional Support Services at Georgia Perimeter College-Dunwoody Campusis is now an Associate Content Editor of LSCHE working with Frank L. Christ, its Content Editor and Dr. Rick Sheets, its Webmaster.

Dr. Rick Sheets, Director of the Learning Support Center at Paradise Valley College, AZ and the LSCHE Web Master is the current President of CRLA. His publications can be found at Resources/Articles and Presentations.

Conferences & Institutes: Coverage of events relevant to learning support centers. This may include keynotes, pre and post conference workshops, and session presentations. Some of these presentations may have a handout that may be copied and printed.

LSCHE News: Changes, deletions, and additions to LSCHE

The 2008 NCLCA/LSCHE Learning Center Website Awards Program will close for submissions on August 27, 2008. Go to http://www.pvc.maricopa.edu:80/~lsche/resources/lc_awards/rules_wi.htm to view the past award winners, program rules and awards criteria

The number of learning center web sites has increased to 800 --thanks to the work of Alan Craig. Remember to access this resource whenever you have a question on learning center programs. This is a cost-effective way of "visiting" other learning centers. and gleaning ideas for your own center, its web site, programs and services.

Recent Publications/2008: Print and Internet material relevant to learning center will be listed here and then may be moved to Resources/Articles & Presentations.

The Learning Center Exchange April issue is available at http://www.learningassistance.com/2008/april/index.html

The April issue of Campus Technology (a free publication) has "must read" article on Learning Commons that is important for all learning center directors.

Technology. Items relevant to learning centers. Think about going to the 2008 T.I.D.E hands-on workshop directed by Dr. David Caverly. Mentors are outstanding technology users David Caverly, Russ Hodges, Lucy MacDonald, Todd Phillips, and Rick Sheets. Scholarship grants to partially defray costs are available from CRLA, NADE, and NCLCA.

If you are interested in being a part of technology and learning assistance, consider joining the CRLA SIG Technology & Distance Learning and getting involved with its newsletter. Its new leader, Melissa Burgess has developed a Webletter that invites dialogue on technology and college reading, writing, math, student success, tutoring, ESL, and learning centers. Check it out. Join the SIG. CONTRIBUTE.      This is CRLA's Web 2.0 in action.
