Look to the Future
As you may know, members of the college community are in the process of
developing a strategic plan for 2008-2012. The Strategic Planning
Committee co-chaired by Laurie Pemberton and Jeff Lace, with
representatives from faculty and staff, have been meeting regularly to
conduct environmental scans and review internal and external trends in
education, business and industry in the valley and nationwide that have
direct impact on our future plans for PVCC. Two student forums were
also held this week. PVCC’s Strategic Planning Committee is developing
goals for our college’s future. Planning will continue for the next
several months and all members of the college community are invited to
participate in developing the college’s plans for the next five years.
In particular, we would like to encourage our students to participate
in a student online survey. There are only four questions. The survey
is available at the following web site:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=RB8H714fTVSHF70dM_2bW8rA_3d_3d

the AHA to help raise funds for research and education on heart
disease, the number one killer of both men and woman.

Martin
Luther King, Jr. Festival Information Booth
Ken Clarke, PVCC Assistant Director for Financial Aid organized a
community information table at this year’s Martin Luther King, Jr.
Festival. Student volunteers from the Black Student Unions of the MCCCD
and staff distributed admission and financial aid materials
representing all 10 Maricopa Colleges to the crowds. The objective was
to remind local residents about Maricopa colleges in their respective
communities. We thank Ken and all those who volunteered at this event
for making an impact on behalf of PVCC and our sister colleges.

Colleges, we must also be conscientious about the role we play as
stewards of public resources.” I join with the Chancellor
to encourage you to attend the one hour presentation Political

Blackboard Courses
In preparation for New Student System 'go-live' in February,
Instructional Technology reminds us that if there are any spring 2008
classes that will use Blackboard that have NOT been flagged and created
in Blackboard, they must be flagged by the end of the business day
today, February 1. No new courses will be created in Bb from February 2
through February 19. Any questions contact Sam Fraulino at 7-7786 or by
e-mail: sam.fraulino@pvmail.maricopa.edu.
College Safety
College Safety, in conjunction with Facilities Services, continues to
work with Johnson Controls on the new Fire Alarm System. The new system
will have unique features, including a voice evacuation feature which
will allow College Safety the ability to announce alerts to building
occupants.
SIS Update
Paul Golisch, Dean of Learning Technology, has advised us that we are
on target for February 19 for 'go live.' Integration testing is going
well thanks to Jo Ann Caufield and the integration testers. Business
Processes have been updated, with a special thanks to Maggie Cullop.
Working many hours to set up proper security roles are Stella Naples
and Dr. Shirley Green. Over the next few weeks marketing materials
(signs, tee shirts, banners and brochures) will be posted, worn and
distributed, thanks to Institutional Advancement.
