Coffee
Conversation
Thank you to those of you who took the time out of your busy schedules
to join me for the Coffee Conversation with the President on Monday
afternoon in "J" Bldg. The conversation focused on what is going well
at PVCC, what deserves improvement at our college, and how we can work
together to understand issues and address improvements. I look forward
to the next Coffee Conversation scheduled on Tuesday, February 6, 2007
at 2pm in the Fitness Center, Room 130.
Black History Month
Thank you to Sonya Woodard and members of the African-American
Employees Association for their special contributions to the kick-off
event for Black History Month on February 1. Look for additional
activities and events scheduled this month. At PVCC we value respect
for others as we continue to build a college community that gives our
students the tools that they need to be successful in an increasingly
diverse world. We will be successful to the degree that we increase
out understanding of everyone’s contributions to our campus and our
world.

2007 All-AZ Academic Awards
Congratulations to PVCC students Katie Gault and Ali Odeh, who have
been chosen to be part of the 2007 All-Arizona Academic Team. Katie has
been named to the FIRST TEAM of the All-AZ Academic awards and was
selected as one of the top community college students on the national
level. These students will represent Arizona at the All-USA Academic
Team competition sponsored by USA TODAY, the American Association of
Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. The two will be
honored at the 2007 All-Arizona Academic Awards luncheon February 8,
2007, at Mesa Community College. Katie and Ali were chosen based on
their academic excellence, leadership and service.
I am pleased to share with you more good news about our students.
Former PVCC student, Debbie Gladding, is the featured guest speaker at
the All Arizona Academic Team Awards Banquet. Debbie will speak about
the impact that a single person can have on the lives of hundreds of
others and how to recognize differing ways to help others.
Her talk will focus on the challenges of pursuing her own higher-level
education while still creating growth opportunities for her own
children and foster children through the Blazing Saddles Equestrian
Academy located in Cave Creek. Debbie attended PVCC from 2001-2003 and
went on to graduate with a B.A. in Psychology from ASU West. She is
currently working on a master’s degree in Counseling from ASU. Debbie
was PVCC’s 2003 All-Arizona Academic Team – First Team Award winner.
Cordially,
Mary Kay
President
