Co-Creating PVCC's Future
On Friday, February 23, 2007, 107 employees and students participated in the Tenth Annual President's Advance, "Embracing Interdependence:  Co-Creating PVCC's Future." Employee comments included, “The Advance "helped to keep me passionate about what I do on this campus," “I need to work more diligently at being the change I want to see in the world," and “I should continue to be responsible to those who depend upon me and to appreciate all whom I depend upon."

Thank you to Michaelle Shadburne, Jim Rubin, Rick Sheets, Bob Bendotti and the entire EOL Team for organizing this event. The Advance was a perfect example of our interdependence, cooperation, and collaboration.  Your participation in helping to co-create PVCC’s future made an important contribution to the many opportunities and challenges that lie ahead

High School Senior Night
PVCC hosted a High School Senior Night on February 22, 2007. Thanks go out to Academic Advising, Recruitment, Counseling, and the Learning Connections who welcomed 67 high school seniors and 89 family members to our campus. Before the formal program, which was held in the Studio Theatre, participants browsed an information table outside the “M” Building. At the table were representatives from Academic Advising, the Honors Program, Counseling, Teacher Connections, the Science Division, Distance Learning, Admissions and Records, and Learning Communities.

Dr. Hank Mancini, Science Division Chair, welcomed the guests and briefly introduced the exciting new articulation agreements PVCC has established for students interested in professional health care careers. Ken Clarke, assistant director of Financial Aid, provided the seniors and their families with information about financing their college education through federal, state, and local Financial Aid monies and scholarships. Recruitment's Ivette Quintero and the PVCC Student Ambassadors spoke about the values of attending PVCC. They discussed the college's degree programs and certificate options, the transferability of PVCC classes and degrees to four-year colleges, and explained the actual process of enrollment. The seniors were then invited to attend one of two upcoming Orientation programs designed especially for them.

Dean of Learning Technology
On Thursday the last of the four candidates for the Dean of Learning Technology position visited campus. DVD copies of the open forum presentations are available through Tuesday, March 6 from the Media Department. Comments and feedback on the four candidates should be submitted to Tina Emmons by 5:00 p.m., March 6. Thanks to all who participated in our search for the Dean of Learning Technology-- the screening committee, faculty and staff attending the open forums, and the Technology Coordinating Team for their respective roles in the process. The selection process should be completed by spring break

Life Sciences Building
At their November 2006 meetings, the Capital Development Advisory Committee and the Governing Board provided conceptual phase approval for the development of our new Life Sciences Building.  The facility will house a variety of bio-science programs including anatomy and physiology, general biology, biotechnology, microbiology, marine biology, and environmental biology.  The scope of works includes seven classrooms, six biology labs, three anatomy/physiology labs, a greenhouse, faculty offices, and related landscaping and site work. Thanks again to the Science faculty and staff who served on the Ed Spec Committee for our new Science building.
