Registration for Summer 2008
Faculty and Staff, it is not too early to begin planning for Summer
School sessions 2008. Summer l classes begin June 2, (First 5-week and
8-week sessions) and Summer ll starts on July 7 (Second 5-week
session). Please remind your students that the new class schedule is
available for pick-up on campus or can be accessed online. To register
online go to: my.maricopa.edu or call 602-787-7000.
Fall Semester 2008
The first day of registration for Fall semester 2008, Wednesday, March
19, will be the first major event for the new Student Information
System. To ensure we provide the best experience possible for our
students, we will be opening the enrollment related offices (FA,
Fiscal, A & R, Advising, and Information Center) at 7:00 am.
Opening at this time will help alleviate the anticipated lines and
address the potential longer transaction time with the new system. In
addition, the SIS Quick Response Team (QRT) will be in the KSC hallway
before 7:00 am, helping students prepare to log in to my.maricopa.edu
which opens at 7:30 am. Thank you to everyone on the team for stepping
up to make the process as smooth as possible for our students and staff.
Celebration of Women
Writers
A Celebration of Women Writers will take place on Thursday, March 20,
10:30 am at the SW corner of the Library, (E Building). Kate Gale,
Eloise Klein Healy, Cynthia Hogue and Peggy Shumaker will be discussing
their experiences and sharing their work. Thanks to Dr. Lois
Roma-Deeley for her work in bringing these talented individuals to our
college during Women’s History Month. This event is free and open to
the public.
PVCC Student Rock
Band
The PVCC Student Rock Band will perform at a free outdoor concert at
the Desert Ridge Marketplace Mall on Saturday, March 22. They will be
playing on the District Stage from 7 pm -10 pm. Come out and support
our student musicians.
Men's Tennis
Our PVCC Men’s tennis team opened the second half of the season with a
win on Tuesday, March 4, beating the Geckos of Gateway 7-2
PVCC/WLG Clothing
Drive
The PVCC/WLG Clothing Drive will be held the week of Monday, March 17
to Friday, March 21. The drive will benefit the Fresh Start Women’s
Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to “helping women help
themselves.” Please bring your clean business-clothing-oriented
donations folded neatly in boxes, to the E & OL office, room E 124.
The items will be delivered to the Fresh Start Center on Friday, March
21.
Paradise Valley
Unified School District Art Show
PVCC is proud to host the annual Paradise Valley Unified School
District art show for grades K-12 in E building and KSC first and
second floor hallways. This event always draws members of the
surrounding communities to our campus. The student artwork will remain
on display until Friday, March 21. An open house, with an expected
attendance of over 800 parents, relatives and friends, will be held on
Tuesday, March 11 from 5 pm-8:30 pm, featuring an awards ceremony at
the amphitheater at 6 pm.
Smithsonian
Traveling Photography Exhibit
The new Smithsonian Traveling Photography Exhibit, “Documenting China:
Contemporary Photography and Social Change,” will remain on view at
Mesa Community College until April 27, before continuing on a national
tour through 2009. Admission is free of charge. For information contact
Zoe Luter at 480-461-7286. This project is supported with funds granted
by the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records Agency. I
encourage faculty, staff and students to take advantage of this
exhibition featuring the works of seven Chinese photographers, who
chronicle the struggle between the old and new China.

Overcoming
Procrastination
PVCC Personal Growth & Self Help will present a program entitled
"Overcoming Procrastination" on March 18, from noon – 1:15 pm at the
KSC208. This presentation is free to the public.
PVCC Students with
Disabilities
The campus is invited to a panel discussion by PVCC Students with
Disabilities, sponsored by Club Ed on March 21, from 11 am - noon in
the KSC 208.
Arizona Jewish
Theatre Company
“Kindertransport,” written by Diane Samuels will be presented at the
CPA, March 15, 16, 20 – 23. This is a moving story of the World War ll
rescue of more than 10,000 children from Germany, Austria,
Czechoslovakia and Poland to safety in England. For information on

Fine &
Performing Arts Student Scholarship Fundraiser Update
The sold-out 2008 Fine & Performing Arts Student Scholarship
Fundraiser, “Get Back: A Musical Tribute to the Beatles,” was held in
the CPA on March 1. Between ticket sales and silent auction proceeds
over $7,300 in scholarship funds were raised for the 2008-2009 academic
year. Congratulations to all who helped make this such a successful
event.

New
Coordinator of Academic Advising
We are pleased to announce Corey Loucy has been selected as Coordinator
of Academic Advising. Corey started at PVCC in the fall of 2007 as a
part-time academic adviser. His previous work experience includes SUNY
Geneseo, University of Richmond, and Arizona State University. Corey
holds a B.A. in Sociology/Anthropology and M.S. in Educational
Administration from Canisius College, Buffalo, NY. He is passionate
about student learning and is excited to be part of the outstanding
team here at PVCC. Corey will be located in KSC Academic Advisement and
can be reached at 7-7063.
Head Baseball Coach
Chosen
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Victor Solis to our
athletic department as athletic specialist and head baseball coach.
Victor is a lifelong resident of Arizona and comes to us from GateWay
Community College. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business
Administration from Grand Canyon University and his Master of Business
Administration in Marketing from Oklahoma City University. Stop by L
108 and welcome him to PVCC. He can be reached at 7-7031.
Co-Head Soccer Coaches Named
Two former professional soccer players, Edson Rico and Mate Kozul, have
been appointed new co-head coaches of the men’s soccer program. They
replace Coach Timony Marchisotto who guided the Pumas to a playoff
chance in 2007. The pair have been coaching since the late 90s, for
such teams as the USISL Arizona Saguaros and the USL Tucson Fireballs.
We welcome them to the campus and remind you that the Pumas are
currently recruiting for the 2008 season. Potential players should

Moving' On Up
This informative session, designed to help employees in applying for
MCCCD positions, will be conducted by Dr. Christine Hall, District
Director of Employment and Recruitment. Learn about the MCCCD
application and interview process, cover letters, resumes, interview
protocol and other strategies. This session will be held on Thursday,
March 20, from noon – 1 pm at the KSC 208. For more information

PVCC Phi Theta Kappa Chapter President Scott Mason
I am pleased to inform you that Scott Mason, our own Phi Theta Kappa
Chapter President, has been elected Regional President for Phi Theta
Kappa. He will represent Arizona and PVCC at all national and
international events. Scott is the first PVCC Chapter member to achieve
this honor, while maintaining his 3.93 GPA. Because of his hard work
and perseverance, he is another PVCC success story. Please join me in
congratulating Scott Mason on achieving this honor.
LeaderShape
Applications
Please remind your students that the applications for MCCCD’s 2008
LeaderShape
program are due by March 31. This interactive and unique experience
helps build leadership skills, and for many it is a life changing
experience. Students must apply online at: http:

The conference will
take place at Central Arizona College, in Coolidge, from May 13 - May
18.

SIS Faculty Training Opportunities
There will be faculty training sessions available on Friday, March 21
from 10:30 am - 11:30 am in E 148 and on Tuesday, March 25 from 5:30pm
- 6:30 pm in E 146. Don’t forget, you must complete the online FERPA
tutorial before attending training. If you haven’t had a chance to
attend this training, please register and attend before April 30. The
FERPA tutorial is at :
http://www.maricopa.edu/legal/ferpa/ferpa_tutorial/ferpatutorial.htm.
After April 30 there will be several Grade Roster Labs available. These
will not be formal training workshops. These will be open lab
opportunities to work on your own grade roster with a trainer available
to assist you. Please contact Chrystle Hall at 7-7784 with any
questions.
