Higher Learning
Commission (HLC) Progress Report
I am especially pleased to announce that the college has received
notification from the Higher Learning Commission that our progress
report on assessment of student learning has been reviewed and
accepted. Three years ago, at the HLC accreditation visit, the
Consultant Evaluators requested that we submit a report on progress
made with the assessment of learning. Our report was submitted on
February 20, 2008. Following the review of our report, the HLC has
indicated that no further reports are required, and the college’s next
comprehensive evaluation is scheduled for 2014. I would like to thank
Vice President Bob Bendotti and Director of Institutional Effectiveness
Laurie Pemberton for their leadership in preparing the progress report,
and acknowledge the hard work of the Academic, General Education and
Out of Class Assessment Teams, and all of our chairpersons, faculty and
staff for their efforts. Indeed, congratulations are in order to
everyone in the campus community for their participation in this
important initiative. A PDF copy of the progress report is located on
the Assessment of Learning web site at www.pvc.maricopa.edu/AL/
.
Eleventh
Annual President’s Advance
Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend one of two sessions
focusing on “Embracing PVCC’s Future – Moving from Strategy to Action.”
Attend from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Thursday, March 27, or from 9:30 a.m.
to noon, Friday March 28. Both are held in KSC208. This year’s
college-wide planning session is designed to help participants develop
an awareness of global and local trends that could impact our students
and our college. The session also will draw on the individual and
collective wisdom here at PVCC to form the strategies and actions that
will impact the college and operational planning for 2008 to 2013.
Register for the President’ Advance online at www.pvc.maricopa.edu/eol/
. I encourage you to join me at one of these sessions. The Planning
Committee has developed a great program.
Raising
Consciousness through Social Activism Forum

and International Studies, presents a Raising Consciousness through

Roccaforte, PVCC counselor.
Puma
Jazz Ensemble and PVCC Big Band Perform
The Puma Jazz Ensemble and the PVCC Big Band will perform at the Deer
Valley Jazz Festival on Saturday, March 29. Both bands have won top
honors at this event in prior years. This year the festival has
bestowed a specific honor on the Jazz Ensemble, which has been asked to
perform in front of high school music students and music educators as
the featured guest group – without competing, thus acknowledging the
high level of performance achieved by this group. Congratulations to
Dennis Saloky and all of our fine musicians taking part in this
festival.
PVCC Lifelong
Learning Seminar Series
Diane Chapman, PVCC counseling faculty, will speak on “Effective Note
Taking & Your Learning Style” from 9 to 9:50 a.m. on Thursday,
March 27, in KSC 208. This series is free and open to the public.
Fine
and Performing Arts Receives DAC Award
Congratulations to our Division of Fine and Performing Arts for being
recognized with the 2008 DAC Award of Excellence. Christopher Scinto,
Sonia Valley, David Bradley and their staff have provided a diversity
of curricula, programs and performances with origins in other

minds and hearts of our students and the community beyond our
classrooms. Their achievements in supporting diversity are being
honored at the Diversity Advisory Council Recognition Luncheon March 27.
