Student Information System
For the next six months, the Student Information System will be one of our major areas of interest and activity. The MCCCD implementation of SIS is less than twenty-six weeks away. All reports are that PVCC is well positioned for the system’s “go-live” date in October, and a number of critical tasks are underway at the college level. These include the adaptation of college business processes to the new system; security testing; automated degree audit testing; and the complex task of verifying student data from the Legacy System to the new data base. Over the next six months, PVCC's College Implementation Team (CIT) will spend significant time on implementation tasks. For a look at PVCC's implementation plan and our project status "dashboard" go to http://www.pvc.maricopa.edu/nss/  Updates will be provided until we go live with the new system.

Week of the Young Child
Paradise Valley Community College and other local organizations, in conjunction with the National Association for the Education of Young Children, are celebrating the Week of the Young Child, April 22-28.  The PVCC Week of the Young Child Committee is sponsoring an exhibit of children’s work along with their teachers’ insights in the Student Union during the week.  Other exciting activities are planned to celebrate the young children among us.

College Showcase 2007
PVCC hosted the second annual College Showcase on April 12 in the KSC Union. The event showcased our college to members of the President’s Circle, legislators, architects, District personnel, MCCD Foundation, and community VIP’s.  Dr. Hank Mancini, Science Division Chair, presented our science programs including the Scale Model Solar System, the Indiana University partnership, the new Life Science Building Project, and the Student Science Symposium. This friend-raising evening helps us increase the awareness and advocacy for the college.  Other academic programs will be featured in the future.

Innovation of the Year
The iGoal team, PVCC's college submission for the Innovations of the Year Awards Program, was recognized on Friday, March 23 at the District-wide awards ceremony at South Mountain Community College.  Thank you to the following individuals for your innovative work on behalf of our students:  Paul Dale, Jim Rubin, Sam Fraulino, Carol Meyers, Dave Preston, George Matthew, Cathy Hart, Jennifer Strickland ,Doug Nelson and Corey Weidner.

PVCC Jazz
Congratulations to Dennis Saloky, director of PVCC’s Puma Jazz and adjunct faculty, for taking Puma Jazz to represent PVCC in two community jazz festivals recently. The Puma Jazz Ensemble performed at the NAU Jazz Festival and received a superior rating for their performance.  Saloky’s PVCC Big Band also recently performed at the Deer Valley Jazz Festival where they were among 20 or more groups including a number of high school bands.  These community outreach performances also serve to recruit high school music students to PVCC.  Puma Jazz is part of our Music Department under the direction of Dr. Christopher Scinto.
