Black Mountain Grand Opening
Celebration Oct. 17
You are invited to the grand opening celebration of the Black Mountain
Campus Saturday, Oct. 17. A ribbon cutting ceremony kicks off the event
at 10:30 a.m., followed by an open house and tours until
4 p.m. Come
check
out the beautiful new home of Paradise Valley Community College at
Black Mountain, the FCF-Holland Community Center and the Desert
Foothills Family YMCA.
In an Oct. 3 news article, the NE
Valley Republic
described PVCC at Black Mountain as a “hub of activity since opening
this semester.” The Black Mountain Campus is located at 34250 N.
60th Street, just south of the Carefree Highway.
Empty
Bowls Benefit Food Bank
The 9th Annual Empty Bowls event at PVCC is from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Oct. 13 and 14 in the Kranitz Student Center Hallway. The ceramic bowls
are hand made by PVCC students and faculty on a pottery wheel.
They
represent the 500 calories available for the entire day to millions of
people living in poverty around the world.
PVCC's Partners
in Art Club sponsors the annual event.
Each bowl costs $5, and proceeds benefit the Foothills Food Bank in
Cave
Creek. For more
information, contact Professor David Bradley, 602-787-6615.
Don't Let the
Flu
Get You!
PVCC is offering seasonal influenza shots from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 23
in KSC 212. The shot is free for college employees who are members of
the Maricopa Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Arizona medical plan. A free
pneumonia vaccine also is available to employees with BC/BS. Employees
not covered by BC/BS may receive the flu shot for $20 and the pneumonia
vaccine for $35. Influenza is serious disease of the nose, throat and
lungs lasting a week or longer with coughing, fever and aches, which
also can lead
to pneumonia. The vaccine is NOT for prevention of H1N1 (swine)
flu.
Employee Fitness Specialist Lisa Cvach said faculty and staff
who are
vaccinated will receive wellness points and incentives from the PVCC
Wellness Program. Appointments are on a first-come, first-serve basis

support system for student athletes. Athletic Director Greg Silcox said
his department
collaborated
with
