Learning support
services division positions
On Monday, Nov. 5, two learning support services division positions
will be posted on the district HR site. These are not new or upgraded
positions, but positions that currently exist within the division with
some realignment of functions. Under this realignment the units of
student development and academic advising will be merged into a single
department. The two positions are:
1. Director, College Student Educational Services (MAT 17 - formerly
Director of Advising and Recruiting). In order to better align services
that support the delivery of all new student programs, this role will
oversee iStartSmart, academic advising, new student recruiting, and
ACE/SUCCEED.
2. Coordinator, Enrollment Services (MAT 15 - formerly Coordinator of
Student Success Programs) - this individual will report to the Director
of College Student Educational Services and provide supervision of the
academic advising function.

Pumas
head to Rust Belt
On Thursday, November 8, the Puma Men’s Cross Contry team heads to Ina,
Illinois, to battle the Rend Lake College Warriors, winners of four
NJCAA Cross Country Championship titles in the last six years. The
Warriors are also the current defending champions, so the event is
highly anticipated – even with all that Midwestern humidity. Let’s make
sure the Pumas know that PVCC is rooting for them. Go Pumas!

Academic
Assessment "study halls"
PVCC has a creative approach to academic assessment this semester. The
Academic Assessment Team informs us that they will be offering three
“study hall” sessions where faculty and staff can come in and talk
about assessment issues. These study halls will take place in KSC 208
from noon to 4 p.m. the Fridays of November 9, 16, and 30, and in
January during Learning Week. These one-to-one sessions are the perfect
place for faculty and staff to ask a member of the assessment team any
question they might have about improving student learning.
In the past, meetings about student assessment issues were held in a
group setting. This year, the team wishes to make these sessions more
individual. The sessions are in preparation for the general education
assessments in the Spring 2008 semester, and we are certain they will
lead to better preparedness for assessments at that time.
There will be follow-up explanatory emails detailing specific times for
each general education area.
Those interested do not need to make an appointment, just show up at
KSC 208 on the correct day and time frame. Members of the Academic
Assessment Team will be there. If you have are any questions, call
Nancy Kolakowsky at 787-6646.
