Modular building “L” ribbon cutting to take place
next semester
The new modular building just north of the Fitness Center will be
completed soon. As previously noted in the November 2 edition of News
>From the Front, installation of furniture, fixtures and
equipment
is
expected to take place over the holiday break. Look forward to a
ribbon-cutting ceremony early in the spring semester.
United Way campaign
open through December 14
It’s not too late to turn in your United
Way pledge form to campaign co-chair Sue Isackson. “Latecomer” pledges
will be accepted through December 14. All individuals who pledge will
be entered into a prize drawing for a Sony video camera, Antiqua golf
shirts and more. To the 84 participants to date, thank you for your
commitment to our community!
Financial review of budget December 1 and 5
Later today, the leadership team will meet with budget managers and
division chairs about the budget. Effective planning for the
future is essential based on our changing enrollment patterns. We
remain
optimistic about the future and with necessary cost efficiencies and
controls now, the college will remain in a stable position.
Campus hours to change for holidays
Please
note the following changes to campus hours during the holidays:
December 18-21: 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
December 22: 8 a.m.-noon
December 25-January 1: Campus closed
Regular hours resume January 2

Paramedics
graduate first class November 17
On November 17, PVCC graduated its first class of paramedics.
Twenty-four students were honored in a ceremony at the Center for the
Performing Arts. Valedictorians Robin Farran and Aaron Lehr
joined class speakers Doug Hamrick and Robert Krayeski
before a standing-room-only crowd that included Program Director Capt. Daniel
Donahue, and instructors Scott Bain, Robert Dotterer, Jim
Laubmeier and Ed Tirone. We thank the new paramedics for
their future contributions
to public safety, and wish them safe and happy careers.
Occupational
programs to honor students December 13 and 14
On Wednesday, December 13, PVCC will hold its second Nursing Graduation
and Pinning Ceremony at the Center for the Performing Arts. Josie
Pirie will deliver the student address, after which degrees will be
conferred upon 26 graduates. Thank you to Rose Dermody, Nursing
program chair; Shawn Harrell, director of College Nursing
Programs at John C. Lincoln Health Network; Nursing faculty members Theresa
Brown, Anita Chilton, Cheryl Cipriano, Jean Dorsett, Jennifer Krawcheck
and Meta Seltzer; and to our partners at the John C. Lincoln
Health Network for all of their contributions to public health.
On Thursday, December 14, 43 students will be honored in an awards
ceremony at the Center for the Performing Arts for completing the joint
PVCC/PC Fire
Operations Academy program under PVCC’s Capt. Paul Sunder
and Chief
Dennis Dodt from PC.
2007 All-Arizona
Academic Team chosen
Congratulations to PVCC students Katie
Gault and Ali Odeh, who have been chosen to be part of the
2007 All-Arizona Academic Team. Katie and Ali will represent Arizona at
the All-USA Academic Team competition sponsored by USA TODAY,
the
American Association of Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa Honor
Society. The two will be honored at the 2007 All-Arizona Academic
Awards luncheon February 8, 2007, at Mesa Community College. Katie and
Ali were chosen based on their academic excellence, leadership and
service.

the
conversation ...
I hope to see all of you at the Employee Holiday Luncheon
Friday, December 15, to personally wish you Happy Holidays. Lunch will
be served from 11:30 to 12:45 p.m. in the Kranitz Student Center. We
again will collect donations to support the Paradise Valley Food Bank
and Adopt A Family.
I also hope you can drop by the next Coffee Conversation from 2 to 3
p.m. Tuesday, December 12, in the M Building Conference Room. I look
