I am responsible for Student Discipline, the Learning Support Center, Student Life, Service Learning, and Out-of-class Assessment. If you are a PVCC student, or have met me, you may know me by the hawaiian shirts I wear. I am also the President of the College Reading & Learning Association. CRLA is a group of 1200 student-oriented professionals at the college/adult level whose overall purpose is to provide a forum for the interchange of ideas, methods, and information to improve student learning.
I started at PVCC as a math instructor, and have been the LSC Director and Computer Commons Director. I am certified to teach Mathematics, Computers, Reading, and Education courses in Arizona Community Colleges. I have a Developmental Education Specialist Certificate from Appalachian State University, have a CNA (Certified Novell Administrator) certificate, and completed my Ed.D. at Arizona State University (dissertation online)."
My professional interests include employee and organizational development, learning styles, metacognition, team-building, technology implications for teaching/learning, and the following web page developments: iStartSmart, PVCC's 2005 Self-Study, and with Frank Christ for Learning Support Centers in Higher Education (LSCHE) web portal housed by PVCCC (since 1996), In Memory of..., and "Learning Your Way."
I completed my doctorate in 1994 and realized I had been in school continuously for 35 years including 19 years while working full-time (more info). Even so, I signed up for a music class at PVCC for fun and have composed two songs with lyrics.
"No One of Us is as Smart as All of Us" (Anonymous), is a quote I live by.
