- AGEC
- Arizona General Education Curriculum: A 35-semester credit
general education program. This is not a degree but a block of
classes which will transfer to an Arizona public university or
community college without loss of credit when it is successfully
completed.
- Credit
- Credits are based on the amount of time spent in a class. It
represents the numerical units earned for completing a class.
Sometimes it is referred to as a unit or semester hour.
- Flex Express
- Distance Learning courses in which students attend classes a
limited number of times.
- Grade Point Average (GPA)
- Each letter grade is worth a certain number of points, A=4 points,
B=3 points, etc. Total your points, divide by the number of credits,
and you will calculate your GPA.
- Guided Independent Learning (GIL)
- Distance Learning courses in which students enroll and start
by an enrollment deadline. Students work independently within
guidelines set by the instructor. Completion deadlines also apply.
- Lower division
- Classes completed at the freshman and sophomore level. This
is the level of classwork taught at the community college while
4 year institutions teach upper division (junior and senior) level
classes as well.
- Online classes
- Distance Learning courses administered via the Internet. Students
must start by an enrollment deadline. Completion deadlines also
apply.
- Open Entry/Open Exit (OE/OE)
- Distance Learning courses in which students enter any time during
the open enrollment, work at their own pace, and exit at completion
or by completion deadlines.
- Period
- One class period is equivalent to 50 minutes per week.
- Prerequisite
- Classes ( or conditions) which must be completed prior to enrolling
in a certain class.
- Subject code and class number
- You will need this information for registration. For example,
ENG101, class 14236
- ENG101 is the subject code and number. It identifies
the subject and level of class being taught.
- 14236 is the class number and identifies a particular
class being taught at a particular time.
Freshman level classes are in the 100 number range; sophomore
classes are in the 200 range.
- Withdrawal
- Officially withdrawing from any or all courses during the semester.
Students must notify the Admissions, Records, and Registration
Office. Reminder: Don't just stop coming to classes. Follow
the procedures by contacting the Admissions Office.
