Beginning with the Spring semester 2003, the procedures for receiving a waiver of placement into Math courses will change. The changes in procedures will be a pilot for Spring semester and final policy and procedure changes will be implemented for Fall 2003. In accordance with the recommendations of the Math Instructional Council, the following changes will be made:

1. Students will take the MCCD Math Assessment for Math Placement. If a student chooses to enroll in a course different from the one recommended as a result of the assessment, the student must follow the new waiver policy below.
2. To be eligible to complete the MCCD Mathematics Course Waiver form, student will have to take the appropriate Placement test twice, following the MCCD testing policy guidelines regarding retests. Students must provide evidence of the pre-requisite course on a college transcript or have acceptable college-prep courses on a high school transcript along with a score that is within 3 points of the decision zone.
3. Placement tests are effective for two years. If a prerequisite is 5 years or older, taking the placement test is strongly recommended.
4. Placement tests are for initial placement only. The Math placement test score may not be used to meet course or credit requirements.
5. If a student chooses to enroll in or remain in a course different from the one recommended during assessment, the student must provide evidence of the pre-requisite courses on a college transcript or acceptable college-prep courses on a high school transcript and must sign a waiver stating that he or she has received advisement and that the course selection is his or her decision.

The above changes will be implemented beginning with the Spring 2003 semester. Students may direct questions or concerns regarding the MCCD Mathematics Course Waiver Form to the Math Faculty or their designee at the college.
