Assessment/Testing Center-Assessments for Course Placement
The Assessment/Testing Center at PVCC offers different assessments for course placement on a walk-in basis, no appointment is needed. Click here for walk-in testing hours. You must present a valid photo ID and have a Student Information Form on file in Admissions & Records in order to test. Allow approximately one hour per test to allow time for check-in, completing demographic information, scoring your test, and printing results. You must arrive at least one hour prior to closing, no placement assessments will be started after that time.
Course Placement Assessment results are valid for 2 years and can be used at any of the Maricopa Community Colleges. One retest in each subject area or math level is permitted each year.

- COMPASS is an untimed computer based placement assessment used for placement into English, reading, or mathematics courses. Choose this option if you would be comfortable using a computer (only minimal computer skill is required) and prefer an untimed format. Questions are presented in a multiple choice format and are answered by pointing and clicking with the mouse. Calculators are permitted on the math portions of the test. If you do not have an acceptable calculator, an on-screen calculator is available. Although the test is untimed, allow yourself plenty of time so you do not rush through the test. Most students will complete each test in less than one hour including completing demographics, scoring, and printing.
- ASSET is a timed paper and pencil test for placement into English, reading, or mathematics courses. Choose this option if you are not comfortable using a computer or prefer a timed format. Questions are presented in a multiple choice format and are answered by filling in circles on an machine-scored answer sheet. Calculators are permitted on the algebra portions of the test but not on the Numerical Skills test. You will be given 25 minutes for each section of the test, with 24 to 36 questions per section. Allow approximately one hour per test to allow time for check-in, completing demographic information, scoring your test, and printing results.
