Q: Where is the Athletics Department located on campus? |
View our campus map and directory. The Athletic Training Room (F134) and Weight Room (F135) is located south of the tennis courts, in the F building. Our Athletic Director, Greg Silcox, has an office in E127. |
| Q: How many sports does PVCC have? |
PVCC offers the following sports: Men's and Women's Cross Country, Men's and Women's Soccer, Men's and Women's Tennis, Men's and Women's Golf, Men's and Women's Track and Field (Indoor and Outdoor) and Softball. |

| Q:If I want to participate in a sport, how many credits to I have to be enrolled in? |
You must be enrolled at PVCC in a minimum of 12 credit hours for the entire time you participate in a sport. This is considered full-time status, and is required by the National Junior College Athletic Association. |
| Q: If I participate in a sport, how am I assured of academic success? |
While it is the responsibility of all students to work hard academically, the Athletics Department staff at PVCC is committed to helping our student athletes be successful both in the classroom and in athletic competition. To help do this, we mail Academic Tracking forms to instructors of our student-athletes twice a semester to give us progress reports. If academic difficulty is reported by an instructor, the Academic Success Coordinator will take the appropriate steps necessary to work with the student athlete to ensure their academic success. Student athletes also attend staffed P.A.S.S. Time (Puma Athlete Student Success) sessions two hours per week. This time is used to receive individual tutoring, participate in study groups, talk to your instructors, or utilize the computer lab or library.

| Q: Are scholarships available for students who participate in Athletics at PVCC, and are their limitations on the amount I can receive? |
Yes, there are several type of scholarships available for students. There is a $275 general scholarship awarded per person, per sport, per semester, plus three (3) books given out on a loan basis for classes. Each sport has a maximum number of scholarships available per the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference guidelines. Individual coaches determine who qualifies for a general scholarship, however THE ATHLETIC TALENT SCHOLARHSIP IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO ARIZONA RESIDENTS. There are also many scholarships available for all students through the Financial Aid office. You may contact them at 602-787-7100.

| Q: What types of documents do I need to submit to PVCC after I'm accepted into the Athletics Department? |
If you are entering college for the first time directly from high school, you must provide a copy of your high school diploma or high school transcripts. If you have gone to any other college, junior college or university (including dual enrollment), official transcripts MUST be sent to Admission; Paradise Valley Communtiy College; 18401 North 32nd Street; Phoenix, AZ 85032. Please note: official transcripts will not be accepted if they are hand carried. Other eligibility rules may also apply. We will also need a signed physical form, and insurance information, as well as a PUMA PATH. The entire eligibility packet can be downloaded from the PVCC Athletics Information page. Please note: all forms must be reviewed and approved by the Athletics Department before you compete as a PVCC student athlete.

| Q: Is there a time limit on the number of years a student athlete can participate in a specific sport? |
Yes, you cannot play more than two years (seasons) per sport. For example, you can run two years of cross country, play two years of soccer, etc. You can also participate in both a fall sport and a spring sport. As long as you satisfy the eligibility requirements, there are no age limits.

| Q: Are there Academic Advisors who specifically work with student athletes? |
Students are welcome to visit any academic advisor when setting up his or her academic plan, but the Athletics Department does work closely with a few advisors who are geared towards setting schedules for our student athletes. They will assist you in academic planning (the PUMA PATH) and help track your graduation requirements. They will also work with your academic schedule and your athletic practice/game schedule to best arrange when certain courses should be taken to ensure academic success. | Q: When are tryouts scheduled and how often are practices held for a sport? |
Tryouts are scheduled based on the sport, and are arranged by the coach. Practice times and length are also arranged by each coach.

| Q: WillI be excused from class(es) if I participate in a regularly scheduled game or tournament? |
Yes, all instructors are given an official absence verification form at the start of each semester, which excuses student athletes from classes when they are traveling or participating with an athletics team. However, it is the student athlete's responsibility to communicate with their instructors throughout the semester and to make up any missed work before an absence occurs.

| Q: Am I allowed to keep my uniform, equipment, or books that were loaned to me while participating in a sport at PVCC? |
Any athletic equipment and uniforms must be returned at the end of the season. If you were loaned books, they must be returned by the Thursday of finals week. If equipment or books are not returned, a debt will be placed on your student account at the Cashier's Office. Until this debt is cleared, it will negatively affect a student's graduation, transcript requests, and/or income tax returns.

| Q: If I'm a student athlete at PVCC, do I have to pay to work out in the Fitness Center? |
| As long as eligibility requirements are met, student athletes are placed in a non-credit section of the fitness center (at no cost to the student). Athletics department staff can also assist you in designing a workout program if needed. Student athletes may also use the supervised Athletic Weight Room, which is strictly for athletics department use. Please note: if you are taking the fitness center as a credit class, these fees cannot be waived by the athletics department. To be enrolled in the free non-credit course, please see the Athletic Trainer in F135 for the appropriate documentation. |
