What is Athletic Eligibility?
This is the name given to the process used to determine your ability to compete at the intercollegiate level. The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) sets standards that incoming and continuing student-athletes must meet in order to practice and compete in a given sport. This association also determines a variety of other factors related to competition including scholarship limits, codes of conduct, number of games, practice dates and national tournament procedures.
What are the standards?
This depends on the individual situation. To be eligible, all participants must be high school graduates or have earned a G.E.D. A physical, which includes an EKG (certified by a medical doctor on our form), is also required. If the student athlete is insured, a copy of an insurance card is also required. For transfer and second year athletes, the eligibility process can be more complicated.
How do we determine if you are eligible?
Each student-athlete must complete an Eligibility Packet each year they are to compete in a given sport. This packet can be completed online or obtained through your coach or Athletics Department Office. Please read over the instructions carefully, fill-out each form and obtain any required documentation as indicated.
Please submit this packet with all required documents to Christina Hundley, PVCC Coordinator of Student-Athlete Services in L109. You will need to complete portions of this packet prior to your first practice with the team. All student-athletes who practice with the team are required to have a physical and copy of any available insurance card on file—there will be no exceptions. Student-athletes who complete these two steps will receive a "Passport to Practice" from the athletic trainer.
Financial Aid may be available to those who qualify. This includes federal grant and loan programs as well as state grant programs. The Financial Aid Department would be happy to assist you in completing the required applications www.pvc.maricopa.edu/finaid/. The Financial Aid department can also assist you in finding and applying for non-athletic talent scholarships. For questions regarding athletic talent scholarships, please contact your coach or the Athletic Department at 602-787-7173.
