MCCARTY WINS RAWLINGS GOLD GLOVE AWARD

It was announced yesterday that Puma shortstop Shaun McCarty is a winner of the 2012 Rawlings Gold Glove Award. This award is given annually by Rawlings in conjunction with the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Nine players at the Division II level were so honored for their outstanding defensive play during the 2012 season.

In 2012 McCarty posted a fielding percentage of .975 in 41 games for the Pumas. He recorded just five errors and a team high 123 assists. He also posted 70 put outs on the season.

Nomination and voting for the Rawlings NJCAA Gold Glove Awards mirrors that of the NJCAA All-American Awards. Coaches nominate players by contacting their regional director. The selection process then culminates at the divisions’ national baseball tournament.
