PUMAS DOMINATE THE THUNDERBIRDS The PVCC women’s soccer team played Mesa Community College last night and came out with a 6-0 victory. The Pumas struggled to score in the first half. The lone goal of the half came in the 37th minute by Ali Doller assisted by Tianna Stewart. The score at half time was 1-0, despite dominating most of the half. “We were rushed in the first half and weren’t making smart decisions,” commented Coach Bingham on the first half performance. The Pumas started the scoring early in the second half. Doller scored in the 47th minute with another combo from Stewart. The third goal came from a rocket shot in the 54th minute by Bianca Bernal off of a Doller throw in. Jessie DeLeon took a chipped ball, from Cassandra Arellano, out of the air in the box and slotted it past the keeper in the 78th minute. Doller completed a hat trick in the 85th minute with a through ball from DeLeon. The last goal of the night came off a corner kick. Ashley Johnson scored off a missed shot by Erin Turner. The Pumas recorded 17 shots on goal to MCC’s 4. Rachel Cardwell played the first half in goal for the Pumas. Cardwell recorded 2 saves. Tessa Hamberlin went in goal for the second half. Hamberlin finished the game with 2 saves and 0 goals against. This is the second shutout for the Pumas. The PVCC women are now 2-0. Coach Bingham said, “It was important to see that the women could make adjustments in the second half. The team as a whole is growing in talent and maturity.” The Lady Pumas compete again Saturday September 1st against #3 Scottsdale Community College(2-0) at 7:30pm at SCC. |
