PUMAS UNLUCKY AGAINST THE THUNDERBIRDS

The PVCC men’s soccer team played Mesa Community College last night and lost a nail biter. The Pumas struggled to score in the first half, and were stunned by a goal scored in the opening minutes of the game. The level of play by the Pumas started to pick up towards the end ofthe first half, giving them momentum going into the second half. “We
could not hold on to the ball long enough to make anything happen in the first half,” commented Coach Teoharevic.

Starting the first half down 1-0, the Pumas had the Thunderbirds on their heels, but a quick counter attack left PVCC down 2-0. With a
need for a goal, Jon Simic pushed forward and got off a cross from the right hand side of the pitch that Kollie Gbangorzizi flicked in to put
the game within reach with 15 minutes left in regulation. The game stayed on MCC’s half for a majority of the remaining time, but the
Pumas could not finish any opportunities. Coach Teoharevic’s commented, “This league is so talented, if you do not finish your
opportunities they will come back to bite you”.

The Pumas recorded 6 shots on goal to MCC’s 5. “Mo” Aguirre and Stephen Verdugo split time between the pipes.

The PVCC men are now 1-1 and face Scottsdale Community College Saturday, September 1st at 5:30pm at SCC.
