PUMAS RANKED #5 IN THE NATION

The PVCC women’s soccer team beat #3 Scottsdale Community College on Saturday September 1st at SCC. The Pumas first goal came in the 15th minute by Ali Doller assisted by Cassie Beckwith. The second goal came 20 minutes later. Erica Gonzalez scored off a rebound shot from Tianna Stewart. The second half remained close but neither team found the net in the second half. Tessa Hamberlin and Rachel Cardwell split time in the net. “SCC is a very strong team and our biggest test so far this season. Our attack did a good job finishing early in the game. Our defense was key in the win. The goalie’s played great and helped us get another shut out,” commented Coach Kacey Bingham.

On Tuesday September 4th the Pumas competed against Cochise College. The Pumas earned their 4th shut out of the season with a 4-0 win. Doller started the scoring in the 4th minute with a cross from Ashley Stein. The Pumas had 7 shots on goal the first half but the score remained 1-0 at half. PVCC scored again in the 57th minute. Jessie DeLeon crossed a ball to a wide open Selena Bracamonte who placed the ball in the back of the net. Beckwith scored the third goal in the 66th minute off a rebound shot from Gonzalez. The last goal was finished in the 84th minute by Erica Peck assisted by Doller. Cardwell and Hamberlin each played in goal for a half. “We struggled in the first half keeping the ball on the ground. Once we put the ball on the ground we started to make better decisions and had success on the field,” stated Coach Bingham.

PVCC competes on the road against Glendale Community College Saturday September 8th at 12:30pm.
