PUMAS BATTLE BACK

On September 11th the PVCC(6-0) women’s soccer team played Pima Community College(6-1). PVCC and Pima were both undefeated before the game. The Pumas went down a goal in the 35th minute. Although PVCC did a good job combining in the midfield they struggled in the final third. “This was a great character test for our team. This was the first time we have been scored on and the first time we have been behind in a game. At half time we talked about stepping up to the challenge,” recalled Coach Kacey Bingham.

The Pumas scored early in the 2nd half in the 51st minute. Ali Doller headed in a corner kick by Jessie DeLeon. In the 56th minute Halie Claiborne served a ball into the 18yd box and Tianna Stewart beat her defender to finish PVCC’s second goal. Two minutes later Bethany Waterbury scored with an assist from DeLeon. In the 83rd minute Cassie Beckwith scored off a slot ball from Courtney Chung.

PVCC recorded 7 shots on goal to Pima’s 3.

Tessa Hamberlin played the first half in goal for the Pumas. Hamberlin recorded 1 save. Rachel Cardwell went in goal for the second half. Cardwell finished the game with 0 saves.

On September 15th the Pumas compete against Chandler Gilbert Community College at 8:00pm at CGCC.
