PUMAS IMPROVE TO 9-0

The PVCC women’s soccer team added two wins to their record. On Thursday September 20th the Pumas beat Phoenix College 3-1. Following with a second win, the Pumas won 5-1 against Gateway Community College on the 22nd.

Against PC, Jessie DeLeon scored the first goal for the Pumas in the 12 minute off a throw in from Ali Doller. Thrirty six minutes later, Cassie crossed a ball to Erica Gonzalez who slid in to finish the goal. The third goal came in the 52nd min when DeLeon flicked on a ball to Ashley Johnson who found the back of the net. PC found a goal in the 58th min off a corner kick. Tessa Hamberlin and Rachel Cardwell split time in the goal.

The Pumas scored their first goal in the 7th minute against GWCC. Cassie Beckwith headed in a cross from DeLeon. In the 15th minute DeLeon slotted a ball to Tianna Stewart who found the back of the net. In the second half Ali Doller scored in the 54th minute assisted by Stewart. Gateway scored 10 minutes later making the score 3-1. The fourth and fifth goal came from Jessie DeLeon. DeLeon’s goals were assisted by Gonzalez and Kenzie Cox. Hamberlin and Cardwell split time in the goal, once again.

Coach Kacey Bingham said, “We just finished the first round of conference play. We are pleased to be 9-0 right now but know the second half of the season will be the biggest test. We are excited to continue to grow as a team over the next month.” On September 25th the Pumas compete against South Mountain Community College at 3:30pm at home.
