PUMAS ONE GAME AWAY FROM NATIONALS The PVCC women’s soccer team played Phoenix College in the semi final game of playoffs Wednesday afternoon. The Pumas put in 3 early goals in the first half. Erica Gonzalez scored the first goal assisted by Ali Doller. Doller followed up with her own goal less than a minute later assisted by Courtney Chung. Ashley Johnson scored the game winning goal with a header off a throw in by Doller. PC found a goal at the very end of the first half. With 20 minutes left of the game, the Bears found the net once again. The Pumas finished the game strong and won their first playoff game. Tessa Hamberlin and Rachel Cardwell each played 45 minutes in goal. Both keepers gave up one goal. “Playoffs are entirely different from regular season play. It appeared we had the game won after the third goal we scored but PC fought back into the game. It was important for us to have a game like this to remind us that we can’t ever stop playing,” commented Coach Kacey Bingham. The Pumas will play for the Region 1 championship game this Saturday against Scottsdale Community College at 2:00pm at home. |
