Paradise Valley and Brevard, the top two seeds in the tournament, met Saturday night to determine a 2012 national champion. The Pumas scored in the first 30 seconds to set the tone for the game. Tianna Stewart found the goal off a throw in from Ali Doller. In the 35th minute Halie Claiborne took a corner kick and Jessie DeLeon blasted a shot upper goal. The Pumas ended the half 2-0. The final goal of the game came in the 61st minute when DeLeon chipped a ball into the box and Ashley Johnson flicked it in the goal with her head. The final score was 3-0.

Cardwell and Hamberlin split time in the net to tally 8 saves. Most of Brevard’s chances came in the second half. Hamberlin made crucial saves to keep the shutout.

“This is an incredible moment for our team and coaching staff. We saw the potential from the first day of training. Our performance during this tournament has been outstanding. We scored 11 goals and only gave up 1 in 4 games this week. I’m so proud of this group. Every game we stressed three words: Organize, Execute, and Fight. They did everything I asked,” commented Coach Kacey Bingham.

Several Pumas were recognized by the NJCAA. Jessie DeLeon was selected to the All-Tournament Team. Ali Doller, Makenna George, and Tessa Hamberlin were named Tournament MVPs. Head Coach Kacey Bingham was named Coach of the Tournament.
