PUMAS PERFORM WELL AT NATIONALS The Paradise Valley men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in Ina, IL at the NJCAA National Championship meet on Saturday, November 10th. Both teams fared well as the women placed 19th and the men brought home the third place trophy. “We had a solid meet”, said Coach David Barney, “The women came in ranked 20th and the men were ranked third, so both teams ran very well!” Iowa Central Community College won the women’s race with a score of 40 points, while Central Arizona College won the men’s race with a score of 51 points. The women were led by Callie Clark’s 81st place finish. Clark ran a time of 20:29.3 over the 5000-meter course. Clark was followed by Sabrina Polanco (20:50.3), 103rd , Emily Wilkinson (21:28.6), 148th, Blanca Zubia (21:29.7), 149th, Leanna Morrison (21:31.7), 157th, Rachel Arnold (22:38.6), 217th and Jordyn Bentley (23:29.8) in 253rd . On the men’s side, PV’s top finisher was Julian Florez, who placed 23rd overall and ran a time of 26:51.0 for the 8000-neter race. Following Florez were Alejandro Valencia (26:54.4), 27th, Ruganza Mugisha (27:05.3), 33rd, John Winfield (27:13.3), 41st, Matthew Whitlatch (27:26.6), 51st , Nicolas Montanez (27:53.8), 69th, and Luis Gonzalez (28:31.1) in 116th.
