NATYCAA SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AWARDS
The National Alliance of Two Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) has announced the recipients of its annual NATYCAA Scholar-Athlete Award. Two Pumas have been honored by the organization this year. Criteria for the award include a minimum 3.6 GPA and selection for All-Conference, All-Region or All-American honors in their respective sport.
Puma Men’s Cross Country and Track student-athlete Matt Whitlatch has been honored as the 2013 NATYCAA Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Whitlatch was a member of the 2011 NJCAA Men’s Cross Country National Championship team. He was an NJCAA Academic Achievement Honoree in 2011-2012 for his performance in the classroom. In 2012 he was selected to the NJCAA Cross Country All-American Honorable Mention team for his performance on the course.
Puma Women’s Soccer student-athlete Tessalin Hamberlin was selected as a 2013 NATYCAA Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention recipient. Hamberlin was a member of the 2012 NJCAA Women’s Soccer National Championship team. She was also the 2012 NJCAA National Championship Tournament Most Valuable Goalkeeper.
Whitlatch will be honored as the 2013 NATYCAA Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year at a luncheon to be held during the 2013 National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Convention to be held in Orlando, June 10-15.
