PVCC MEN DEFEAT SOUTH MOUNTAIN
The PVCC men's soccer team defeated South Mountain 5-2 on Thursday for the second time this season, giving them their second consecutive win.
The Pumas started slowly conceding a goal on a long punt in the 5th minute, but the team was not fazed, and proceeded to break down the opposition for the rest of the match. In the 29th minute, Rafael Mendoza capitalized on a poor clearance from SMCC and brought the score to 1-1 to end the half.
In the 51st minute, South Mountain stuck again with a goal from the top of the box. However, the Pumas answered back only two minutes later when Gabe Huss won a challenge on the flank, and found captain Michael Fallon on a cross who ties the score at 2-2. This is when the Pumas took control of the match.
PVCC found their stride and dominated the remainder of the game. In the 57th minute, only four minutes after their last goal, the Pumas took the lead with an unassisted goal from Victor Bastida. He would scored once again in the 65th minute off an assist from Andre Portela. Relentless in attack, PVCC reasserted their dominance with a fifth goal by Mitchell Phillipy on a through ball from Bastida.
The last two performances by the men's soccer team are proving that their new-found energy and positivity can produce results, and the boys will look to prove it once again in their rematch against Mesa Community College on Thursday, October 3rd at 7pm in Mesa.
