The Pumas are back to their winning ways. The PV women’s tennis team got back on track on Tuesday after winning against Glendale Community College 7-2. It was a dominant team performance against a team they had beat PV 5-4 last time.

The Pumas swept the doubles and only lost two matches in singles. The day started with a strong showing by Clementine Eckert and Anastasia Ovchinnikova at the number 1 doubles winning 8-5. The number two doubles team of Nisha Barretto and Nicole Nsa pulled off a thrilling win of 9-8 (7-5).

Singles play had some great matches from a couple of freshmen, Anastasia pulling off a great win in three sets (1-6, 6-2, 10-7) at the number 2 singles while freshman Cheyenne Stiegmann lost her match in a hard fought three setter. (6-4, 7-6, 10-8)

Coach Feroz Rast on the day’s action, “We really needed a good match from the entire team. We have been in a slump the last few matches and this is exactly what we needed. It was great to see our doubles win their matches and have that positive energy going into singles.”

The Pumas only have one match left before the region tournament. They will take on Pima Community College next Tuesday at PVCC.
