PUMA OLYMPIAN HONORED NATIONALLY BY NJCAA
Former Puma April Steiner-Bennett (Pole Vault) was honored last week with a 2014 NJCAA Service and Recognition award. The awards were presented last week during the opening ceremonies of the 73rd NJCAA Annual Meeting. The NJCAA ACHIEVEMENT AWARD was awarded to former NJCAA student-athletes who have displayed outstanding athletic ability in national, Olympic or international competition and possess excellent ethical character.
April Steiner-Bennett began her successful career as a pole-vaulter at Paradise Valley, winning an NJCAA national championship in the event in 1999 with an NJCAA-record vault. Steiner-Bennett moved on to the University of Arkansas where she earned NCAA All-America honors six times. In 2008, April recorded a personal-best jump in the Olympic Trials to earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team for the Beijing Summer Games.
