Employment Resources for Community Members

The following list contains resources available to help individuals who are unemployed or looking to pursue new opportunities.  Job seekers are encouraged to discuss program eligibility guidelines with the appropriate program.

Career & Employment Services offers workshops for job seekers, including resume writing, interviewing skills, job search strategies and online job search techniques.  Individual appointments are also available and employment questions and resume reviews can be directed by calling PVCC Career Services at 602-787-7073.

The Maricopa Career Network is an online job board for students and community members of the Maricopa Community Colleges. Job seekers can find part-time and full-time opportunities that may not be advertised elsewhere.

The Maricopa Community Colleges comprise 10 colleges, 2 skill centers and numerous education centers dedicated to educational excellence and to meeting the needs of businesses and the citizens of Maricopa County. Each college is individually accredited, yet part of a larger system — the Maricopa County Community College District.

The District is one of the largest higher education systems in the world and the largest provider of health care workers and job training in Arizona — a major resource for business and industry and for individuals seeking education and job training.

Whether just out of high school, beginning or re-entering college or seeking lifelong education, you will find that the Maricopa Community Colleges offer a wide range of opportunities. The colleges offer approximately 1,000 occupational programs (degrees and certificates), and 37 academic associate degrees, and a total of 10,254 courses.

As required by the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998, this website has been developed through a collaborative effort of the Arizona Department of Education, Career and Technical Education Division, Workforce Development Unit and the Arizona Department of Economic Security, Workforce Development Administration. The purpose of the Workforce Investment Act is to increase the employment, retention and earning of participants, and, as a result, improve the quality of the workforce, reduce welfare dependency and enhance the productivity and competitiveness of the Nation.

Arizona Workforce Connections provides services to job seekers through a “One-Stop” system. Job seekers can meet with representatives from Job Services, Veterans’ Services, Vocational Rehabilitation and other state and federal programs. Programs may be available to help workers who were laid off pay for short-term occupational retraining at community colleges.

Jobing.com has a variety of blogs, job search videos, employer profiles and job postings so job seekers can keep up-to-date on the latest trends in the Phoenix area, as well as improve their job search skills.

Unemployment Benefits - http://www.azui.com
Unemployment benefits replace part of the income workers lose when they become unemployed. It is a benefit available to workers out of work through no fault of their own. Each situation is different, so unemployed individuals are encouraged to seek additional information online. Deaf/hearing impaired callers may reach a representative by calling the toll free TDD number 1-877-877-6226. You are strongly encouraged to apply online, since the telephone wait time can be extremely long.

(Surviving Unemployment Guide)
Community Information & Referral is 24-Hour Help Hotline that refers community members to services that may be able to assist in a variety of areas including: emergency assistance, housing/foreclosure issues, health care programs, food assistance and bill assistance.  The website also contains a comprehensive online database of service providers, government agencies and non-profit organizations.

AARP Worksearch - http://www.aarpworksearch.org/ 
The AARP Foundation has a broad array of services to help older workers find more meaningful employment. In addition to providing access to skills assessment and training (40+), the AARP Foundation can even connect qualified individuals with on-the-job training at companies that value your experience and dedication.

Arizona Coalition for Military Families - http://arizonacoalition.org/
The Arizona Coalition for Military Families is a public/private partnership focused on building Arizona’s statewide capacity to serve and support all service members, veterans and their families.
