Recommendations
- Each division/department at PVCC are encouraged to use information from the administration of CCSSE to improve programs, courses, services and processes to further engage students in the learning process.
- Each division/department should share relevant PVCC CCSSE findings with faculty and staff members. Departmental presentations are available through the CCSSE Team.
- Each division /department are encouraged to identify one or more student engagement strategies based on benchmarks or specific data from CCSSE in order to positively influence teaching and learning in and out of the classroom. Interdepartmental collaboration is encouraged.
- Divisions/departments can continue to implement student engagement strategies previously initiated.
- Document ways in which faculty and staff implemented engagement strategies. Share best practices of the division/department student engagement-related accomplishments with the college on this CCSSE web site.
- When creating new initiatives consider using the CCSSE data to help build student engagement into college and division/departmental operational plans for 2009 and beyond.
- Maintain student engagement strategies.
- Maricopa will re-administer CCSSE in spring 2009—District-wide.
Possible Actions
- Request a presentation on the 2007 data from the CCSSE Action Team
- Seek consultation from CCSSE Action Team
- Submit nominations for the Student Engagement Best Practices Awards
- Review CCSSE data and identify bench mark and/or specific items that the department/division will focus on
- Determine factors that support or may impede student engagement in the context of the selected bench mark/items
- Identify gaps between desired level of student engagement and current level of program, course, or service delivery
- Identify activities to increase student engagement in the context
- Develop a plan to assess outcome of activities
