The focus of this plan is to increase the use of email between student and instructor specifically in the Guided Independent Learning (GIL) courses to improve student engagement and connection.

Computer Commons
Marketing strategy/publicity – benefits of using Computer Commons (multiple strategies highlighted)
Continuing Education
Implementing system registration for new students; further development of email communication to non-credit students about related academic classes; and identifying and offering some academic resources for non-credit students
Counseling
To help students cope with non-academic responsibilities, Counseling will: increase marketing of Counseling services; make classroom presentations to increase student awareness of personal counseling services; offer free life-long learning sessions throughout each semester that address non-academic concerns
Disability Resource Center
Students registering with disability services will receive a planning document to fill out during the intake process to help them identify the reasonable accommodations they need in order to learn and succeed in their classes at PVCC and identify their current academic and career goals; this information will be discussed, enhanced, or modified during the initial meeting with the DRC and this customized plan will be reassessed by the student and DRC every semester.
E&OL
Incorporate active and collaborative learning strategies in professional development opportunities and college-wide events for our faculty and staff.
English
The English Division will publish the English Division Guidebook for English 101 students; when published, PVCC freshman composition students enrolled in ENG101 will be required to have this book as a supplemental text in their ENG101 class.
Facilities Services
Implementation of a College-Wide Project Request Process to provide detailed information to college administration to assist with budgetary decisions to allow for greater stewardship and alignment of resources in an effort to meet the needs of our learners; create outdoor environmental relaxation areas by installing Xerixcape water features, rockscapes, and colorful plantings to entice students to remain on campus for gathering, conversing, studying, reflecting, meditating, etc.
Fitness
Hire adjunct faculty to focus on education of all part-time faculty in regards to our PVCC initiatives; provide a handout with a description of all college resources for use as an attachment to the syllabus and/or a handout to use in the Fitness Center and Division classrooms; develop and present report of the division CCSSE related pilot Action Step accomplishments; continue to implement student engagement strategies
Human Relations
During the spring semester 2006 HR will study the correlation (if any) between the number of classes a student takes, the number of hours the student works at PVCC, and the likelihood that a student will continue attending PVCC if there is a good balance between the number of work hours and credit hours.
IRTS
Secure funding to hire student intern; establish working guidelines and commitments; meet regularly to review progress of evaluation; communicate project status regularly with Senior IT staff; and design and implement a database to maintain capital assets
Learning Support Center
Increase student use of peer or other tutoring and skill labs; measure student satisfaction of peer or other tutoring and skill labs in order to establish a benchmark; measure the importance of peer or other tutoring and skill labs to students in order to establish a benchmark.
Learning Support Services
College-wide student success outcomes will be implemented and used to drive program development; where appropriate all student, academic, learning, and administrative support programs will be aligned with the student success outcomes; student success outcomes will be incorporated into the existing student development philosophy; to assist students with identifying, writing, monitoring, and completing educational, career, and personal goals, a web based goal setting tool —iGoal— will be implemented; the iGoal tool will serve as the linking intervention at appropriate student “touch points.”
Library 
We will rearrange the floor plan to create several engaging informal learning spaces: create a lounge eating/drinking area; install signs throughout the collection to identify subject areas, similar to bookstore signage, as well as showcase newly arrived books and media; enhance the leisure reading collection; include staff favorite picks; create an online book club to complement the library’s monthly book club
Media
Student and part-time Media employees will be trained on audiovisual equipment, technical setups, delivery/pickup of media equipment and internal procedures; through this support of learning and technical training, an opportunity can be established to the employee for a future vocational career endeavor in media technology
Media Labs
A newly added feature of Media Services is to provide a computer lab for reinforcing Final Cut Pro Editing software, PowerPoint presentation practice, and support for students needing instruction on equipment understanding or usage
Student Development
Weekly group meetings between second year
ACE/SUCCEED students and coordinator; implementation of ePortfolio into second year ACE/SUCCEED student activities; implementing Round Table Discussion and Forum regarding the DREAM Act; adding iGoal session into Orientation Programming for new students; adding Academic Readiness/Success Strategies session into Orientation Programming
Student Life
Implementation of the PEAK Leadership Institute will address the benchmarks as follows: select course based leadership offerings include community service project as part of the course (Emerging Leaders Levels 1-3, SLC, Service Learning courses); all Tier One programs/courses include a written paper that demonstrates self-awareness through the identification of personal beliefs, values, and leadership style based on information from various experiences and sources; tier Three includes mandatory career development planning including formal meeting with a career advisor if not previously completed in Tiers One or Two. |
