Adjunct Faculty Evaluation Initiative
This CCSSE Action Team developed an adjunct self-evaluation tool and a student course evaluation tool that asks questions reflecting the quality practices described in the CCSSE instrument. The forms are currently being piloted with the goal of implementing, after revision, the new forms in FY2006-2007. Karen Fehr, Patti Marsh, and Steve Nicoloff were the leaders of the team on this project.
Department/Division Winners ($250)Business/IT Division
The Business/IT Division created CDs providing information on their degree/certificate programs, classes, and faculty. The CDs were demonstrated and distributed to students in business/IT classes in April. Students can use the CD to opt into a database to later receive newsletters from the division highlighting new classes and programs of study. Patti Marsh lead the business IT marketing team of Dina Preston Ortiz, Hedy Fossenkemper and Gary Smith as well as the entire business IT division.
Library Division
Shelle Witten and the library faculty team created a strategy to encourage informal learning. Their plan includes: creating a leisure area furnished with popular reading materials and comfortable seating; sanctioning food and drink throughout the library; showcasing each semester favorite reading selections by the campus community; and debuting a blog to complement the library’s monthly book club discussion.
Student Athlete Academic Success Program
This CCSSE Action Plan developed a mandatory student academic planning process for student-athletes. The academic plan includes transfer goals, graduation requirements and check sheets, transfer eligibility requirements, and a semester by semester academic plan. Completion of and a review of the plan each semester are required prior to participation in athletic competition. 150 student athletes completed an academic plan. The team leaders of this project were Greg Silcox and Maggie Cullop while key staff included Andy Helman, Tony deShay and Helice Agria.
Individual Winner ($100)Sherry Adams, Faculty, Communication/English
All students in a COM263 Intercultural Communication class have been divided into groups of four to six students. They have been given four weeks to prepare presentations on the world’s major religions. Students in the audience will evaluate the presentation of one group according to the 6-Step Guide.
