CCSSE FAQ

What are the benchmark scores?

The benchmark score is the average (for an individual school, it is based on the student responses for the particular survey items that make up the benchmark, and for a size group or consortium group, it is based on the average of all the schools’ scores that make up that group). The scores are standardized so that the mean is always 50. Please let me know if this doesn’t answer your question.

What are the college size groupings?

The size groupings are:

  • Small - less than 4,500

  • Medium - 4,500-7,999

  • Large - 8,000-14,999

  • Very large - 15,000 and more

We are classified as a large community college.

How are urban, suburban, and rural designations determined?

The colleges are aked to self-classify in terms of urbanicity. We have classified our service area as urban.
