Watercolors: LANDSCAPE OPEN STUDIO

Watercolors

Watercolor paints, whatever you are comfortable with using. If you have colors, bring them. If not, recommended minimum of:

2 reds – 1 warm (toward the yellow side) and 1 cool (toward the blue side)

2 yellows – 1 warm and 1 cool (Hansa Yellow Light or transparent Yellow; Lemon Yellow and New Gamboge

2 blues – 1 warm and 1 cool (Thalo or Prussian Blue or Antwerp Blue and French Ultramarine are good)

Greens (Thalo and Viridian, or Olive)

Dioxazine violet: Optional color

Warm and cool colors descriptions will be discussed in class

Matte Medium

Palette for Paint

            Large work area in the middle with paint wells around edges, lid

Paper

Arches watercolor paper 140lb cold press, or 300 pound paper

Japanese Washi papers in the lighter colors and lace papers, and bark papers

FLAT Brushes (Please no Hog Bristle Brushes)

            Flats: 1” and ½ “

One cheap flat brush for Matte Medium

Optional: 2” flat Robert Simmons White Sable Skyflow Wash brush
ROUND Brushes

#3 or #4 round

#8 or #10 round

Board to attach paper, May be foam-core or masonite

Box of white tissue/Kleenex

1” masking tape or Blue Painter’s tape

Small shaker of table salt in closable container

2 plastic, good size, flat bottomed, water buckets (old margarine tubs are good)

Newspaper for table and floor cover

Ink pens with ink in them or pointed stick and bottle of Permanent Black India Ink
