JUNE & JULY CLASSES

Computer Game Design

Students will explore the world of computer game design from the analysis of gaming structures to story and character creation. Students will then create the rules and interactions of their video game creation, the storyline, characters, skill and “luck” levels, backgrounds, obstacles, and animation. As skill levels, interest and time dictate the next step after creation of the initial game is to acquire some basic C# programming skills to enhance game modifications. (This information, as listed in our printed schedule, is incorrect.)
Materials fee of $49 payable to the instructor at the first class for gaming software and memory key the students will take home.

You Build It!
NEW!
Calling all future architects and engineers. You are never too young to learn the principles of engineering, architecture and physics. The possibilities you ‘build’ in this class are only limited to the extent of your imagination. Using computer simulation, develop an entire city of your choosing and then create it as a 3D model. Study the history of architecture, materials used, floor plans and more as you build your city. Will it be underwater, on the side of a volcano or in a jungle?
Lead Instructor: Pam Whiffen
Subject: Cont_ed Course #200-10061
Ages 9 - 12
#18473 Jun 9 - 19 8am - 12pm
Fee: $379 Mon - Thu J136 (and E152)

Astonishing Astronomy #1 NEW!
Every curious person who gazes at the night sky becomes an astronomer and has been intrigued by the beauty and wonder of the night sky. This class will take you one step closer to understanding the infinite possibilities of space. Take an imaginary journey through our local Solar System and beyond with lots of hands-on activities. Build rockets and visit the International Space Station. Discover what space does to the human body, see what fish look like in space, and explore the bizarre and exotic planets, moons, and asteroids encounter along the way. Taught by a NASA Educator Ambassador.
Lead Instructor: Pam Whiffen
Subject: Cont_ed Course #200-10062

JULY ONLY CLASSES

I
ntro to the 3D Animation Pipeline NEW!
Call for designers! This class will teach all the basics of the computerized 3D animation process. Starting with a concept drawing, we’ll create a 3D model, then texture it, animate it and render it to create your very own animated object! Through conception, creation and animation of 3D objects, we’ll learn the basics of how 3D content for video games and movies are made! Bring your imagination! Computer game experience recommended, but not required. If enrolled in the Computer Game class in June, please bring your memory key.
Instructor: Jerry Chalupnik
Subject: Cont_ed Course #200-10059
Ages 11 - 14:
#13310 Jul 7 - 17 8am - 12pm
Fee: $379 Mon - Thu TBA

Advanced Robotics

Take your robot knowledge to a new level! Using project-based learning, students will expand their programming abilities, logical thinking skills, and teamwork. Solve specific tasks on training missions, data logging, timing programs and more. Prerequisite: Successful completion of CAAP's Robotics class (any time between 2005-2008)
Lead Instructor: Mary McBride
Subject: Cont_ed Course #200-10055

Brainiac Games & Puzzles
NEW!
You can strain your brain and have fun in this class! With all of the interest in puzzles around the world it is little wonder that there is a growing number of people who design puzzles for a living. If you are interested in finding out more about enigmatology, here is your opportunity to go behind the scenes and learn the craft of designing a puzzle. What makes it simple or mind boggling? We’ll be solving and designing our own brain twisters, math puzzles, logic puzzles and optical illusions. Let your creativity flow as we draw fractal images, construct elegant 3D structures and challenge each other at some brainiac games.
Lead Instructor: Mary McBride
Subject: Cont_ed Course #200-10058

Advanced Game Design

Building upon the fundamentals gained from Computer Game Design, learn the true power of the source. The course will emphasize skills development by rapid prototyping. The concepts of Object-Oriented Programming will be applied hands-on with Python, a high-level programming language. Beginning with simpler 2D games, graduate to full 3D games and a working knowledge of the skills pros use to make hit games. Astronomy is an old science because of the known cultures that needed it to predict the seasons, and motions of the sun, moon and planet. It is young because in the last 50 years astronomers have begun to understand the physics that drive the universe. This will be your chance to travel beyond our solar system and witness the life cycles of stars, exploding supernovae, black holes and far away galaxies. Ativities enable you to explore the depths of our universe that will leave you amazed. Taught by a NASA Educator Ambassador. You do not have to have taken Astronomy #1 to enroll.
