KIDS COLLEGE
Now in its 13th year, Paradise Pumas Kids College is a structured enrichment program for young people, ages 6-14. Highly investigative learning opportunities are designed to enable children to expand their academic skills and make new friends. The class content is different from regular school curriculum and is taught by specialists in their field.
There are two 2-week sessions: June 9-19 and July 7-17. Most classes are 8am -12pm or 1-5pm. If your child will be here all day (they must have completed 1st grade to be able to do so) please register them in the Puma Pit Stop.
Please note: You cannot use the online system to register children under the age of 18. Please use the registration form or call Admissions and Records at 602.787.7000.

Reading and Math
Reading Advantage
This enrichment program helps young students become proficient, enthusiastic readers who enjoy reading, and read for a variety of purposes. With a low student to teacher ratio, the course is designed to meet the individual academic needs of the child including underprepared or highly prepared students. The initial assessment and reading program will help improve their skills in an exciting, multi-approach format

A printout of the STAR computer assessment will be provided to parents of children enrolled in grade 2 and above. A $15 fee for the Assessment is included in the course fee and only refundable if you drop the class and cancel the assessment appointment 2 business days prior to the appointment. Course fee includes all materials.

Math Logic
Students will develop math skills in logic and problem solving using a variety of challenging hands-on activities. Sharpen mathematical wits and deepen critical thinking, problem solving and logical reasoning skills. Students will have fun with math, use calculators and computers, play with math games and explore real-world mathematics problems. Graphing projects, manipulatives, cooperative activities and learning math through art included. All students will be assessed prior to class and will work in small groups based on skill level, and learn as much mathematics as their ability and determination will allow. Ever wanted to be a reporter for a newspaper or travel the globe interviewing famous people? Explore the career paths for journalists such as newspapers, magazines, radio and TV broadcasting! Learn what it takes to write book and movie reviews and dabble in public relations. Develop basic journalism skills including story development, interviewing, researching and cultivate your own personal writing style and skills. All students will plan, develop and complete a class newspaper.

Art with Mixed Media NEW!
Learn to experience art with your hands! This program will focus on drawing, painting and simple sculpture. Learn to use graphite pencils, colored pencils, tempera paint, yarn, and various papers to provide challenge in depth, dimension and balance. Through the use of a ruler, scissors, proportioning of glue and water, learn to develop color usage and patterns. Finally, clay sculpture projects will be formed, painted, dried and sealed. Rocket Rally
This introduction to the principles of Rocketry is a unique experience in aerospace engineering! Teams collaborate on the planning, assembly, preparation and launching of model rockets. After authentic ‘debriefing’ exercises, teams refuel and launch again. Behaving like NASA specialists, each is involved in the tracking, recovery, inspection, and evaluation of each rocket. Teams apply laws of trigonometry to determine altitude. Outdoor exposure will not exceed 30 minutes at one time. Please provide sunscreen, hat, light clothing, sunglasses and plenty of water.

Fossil Safari
This exciting simulated fossil expedition captures the reality of the experience for those intrigued by paleontology! Participants will search in many "corners of the earth" using simulated excavation techniques for genuine fossils. Each of the four days will allow them to uncover a new type of fossil and then follow through with a procedure to remove, clean, prepare and display the find as if for a museum collection. This highly motivational experience is guaranteed to thrill and educate your “wanna be” paleontologist. Music Top of page Guitar for Kids

Puma Pit Stop

Kids College staff supervise students at all times. Students who are taking a single morning or afternoon class have the option to enroll in the supervised lunch hour (Puma Pit Stop), however, students enrolled in both morning and afternoon classes are required to enroll in the Pit Stop, after which they are escorted to afternoon classes. Meals from home are encouraged, however the cafeteria has meals available for $3-$7. No additional extended day options are available for students in the morning or evening.
