Palette: wooden or acrylic
Brushes
no. 8 flat bristle
no. 4 flat bristle
no. 2 flat bristle
no. 8 bright sable brush
no. 1 round sable brush
no. 5 long filbert brush
a standard palette knife for mixing colors and cleaning the palette
Paints:
Titanium white (get the big tube)
Thalo Blue
Cadmium Red Light
Yellow Ochre
Burnt Sienna
Burnt Umber
Ivory Black
NOTE: Paint quality will reflect the price! There are student grade, medium grade, and studio (professional) grade paints.
Painting Surfaces
Primed, Pre-stretched Canvas or
Canvas Board ( do not go smaller than 11x14. 16x20 is a good size to start with)
Mediums and Solvents:
Turpentine/ paint thinner or Turpenoid (for cleaning brushes)
Linseed Oil/stand oil ( to speed up the drying of paints)
Mineral Spirits: paint thinner (no odor).
Accessories:
plenty of paper towels/rags for cleaning your brushes and palette.
