PEN AND INK WITH WATERCOLOR

This is an extensive and suggested supply list . You do not need everything on this list. Take advantage of the store coupons, example :Michaels, JoAnn's.

Technical pens

Rapidograph/ example: Koh-I-Noor, Rotring etc (different nib sizes from very fine to extra broad: 6x0/.13 to 7/2.00)

Crow Quill- pen consists of a wooden or plastic holder and a removable steel nib

Ink- India inks( universal black)

Colored Inks-check for lightfast ratings, many are not permanent nor brushproof. Run your own test for permanence before using it.

Watercolor- Look for a watercolor paint that has rich intense color, example: Grumbacher, Windsor-Newton etc. Whatever your brand choice, remember it is better to have a limited palette of quality paints than a lot of poor substitutes. Using a basic palette of 6 warm and cool "primary" colors will produce a full spectrum of intense, accurate and intermediate colors (greens, browns and oranges.)

Cadmium Yellow Medium (warm yellow)

Cadmium Yellow Lemon (cool yellow)

Ultramarine Blue (warm blue)

Phtalo Blue (cool blue)

Cadmium Red Light (warm red)

THio Violet (cool red)

From these 6 colors, the three primary colors (yellow, red and blue) can be mixed.

Liquid Acrylics- for colored pen work you can use Rotring's ArtistColor (transparent). It is made for air brushes and technical pens and brush application. Caution: White and Black ArtistColor have a heavier pigment concentration and are not recommended for the medium- and fine-nibbed Rapidographs.

Brushes - The best brushes to use with watercolors are sable hair. An alternative choice is a quality blend of natural and synthetic sable hairs in various sized flats, rounds and fan shapes.) also useful is an old, frayed , synthetic flat brush or stippling, scrubbing and general misuse

Watercolor Paper - The paper must be absorbent enough to avoid buckling. A good quality, cold-pressed watercolor paper of 125- to 140-lbs. Taping the edges of the paper to a drawing board will help the surface retain its shape. Size of the paper will depend on your project. It can range from 9x12 to 22x30in.
