How to Buy a Digital Camera
There is a lot to learn when you want to switch from a 35mm, Instamatic or Polaroid camera to a digital camera. This discussion seminar will aid in your purchase of a digital camera and help you find the right camera to meet your needs or to purchase as a gift. Learn basic digital operations and popular features of current models. If you are considering purchasing a camera, don't do so until you take this class!

Basic Digital Photography

Beginning Digital Photography
This is a hands-on class for beginning digital camera users interested in learning the concepts and craft of digital photography. Emphasis is on camera set up and using the auto scenes and features of the mode dial. You should have a camera with an external mode dial. Course also covers the basics of downloading images to your computer and emailing. Read and be familiar with your camera manual before attending class. Bring your camera and photos for class critique as well as a sack lunch.

Intermediate Digital Photography
This is a hands-on workshop for digital camera users interested in learning intermediate photo skills. Learn to take your camera off “Auto” and take charge of the creative zones of the mode dial for capturing images under varying lighting conditions and scenes. You should have a camera with an external mode dial. Class includes flash use both indoors and out. Digital workflow, image quality, and file formats are also reviewed. Students should have knowledge of basic camera set up. Beginning digital photography class is helpful but not required. Bring a sack lunch.

Continue to enhance your skills in photography, create a portfolio of images and open up new doors to seeing photography. You'll be given several shooting assignments with critique sessions and a field trip to the Japanese Friendship Gardens on Sat., April 12 from 9:30am-12pm. No point and shoot cameras, please. Wildlife Photography
Learn the basic skills needed to take pictures of the smallest insect to the largest mammal. Learn both the mechanics of making your camera work for you and how to find and get close to local wildlife. Gain experience with flash photography, remote photography and macro photography. The first class will be on campus followed by two classes in the field (Phoenix area). You will need to bring your own camera and be able to travel to the field sites. Maps will be provided.

Landscape & Macro Photography
Enjoy a morning photo workshop and easy hike at Lake Pleasant. Learn composition, use of polarizing filters and how to use a tripod for sharper pictures. Close-up photography will also be discussed. You must have a basic understanding of your equipment (35mm or digital SLR cameras). No point and shoot cameras, please. Bring your equipment, water, sunscreen, snacks and sturdy shoes. $7/per vehicle is payable at Lake Pleasant Regional Park. Click here for directions .
