IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS
Enrollment
Unless otherwise noted, registration is open until each class is filled or until three days before each class starts. Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Payment is due at the time of registration. We regret no exceptions can be made to the age of students enrolling in classes. Your child must have completed the first grade to enroll in classes that would keep him/her on campus all day. Click here for registration information. CAAP eligibility, application and registration procedures are different from general Kids College classes and can be found on the CAAP website.
CAAP -
Center for Advanced Academic Programs
Included in Kids College programming are courses for academically motivated young people. CAAP courses employ education’s best practices to create a unique learning environment for gifted learners. Children must meet eligibility requirements and follow a certain admissions process. Click here for CAAP classes and information.
Check-In on the First Day,
Drop Off and Pick-up
Upon the first day of class your child must check in at the Kids College registration table in the J-Building. This allows Kids College staff to become familiar with your child and give them their name tag. The name tag must be worn at all times while on campus. Students will only have to check in once, regardless of how many summer courses they attend.
Parents or guardians are expected to provide all transportation to and from campus. Short-term parking is reserved for Kids College on the west side of campus near J-building. All children must be escorted to and from the classroom and signed in and out daily. Students may not be left unattended by parents before class and should be picked up immediately at the end of class. Children will be released ONLY to those persons listed on the emergency information form. Any special concerns should be noted on this form and brought to the attention of the Kids College staff.
Campus Safety
We are always concerned for your child's safety. Parents are responsible for walking their child to and from their classroom. Students are not to be dropped off or picked up in the parking lots or dropped off in rooms before an instructor arrives. Instructors will provide assistance moving students to/from the Puma Pit Stop. No child may be left unattended at any time on campus. If this occurs the child will be brought to the Continuing Education office and parents will be called to pick him/her up.
Textbooks and Materials
Books and materials are supplied by instructors unless otherwise stated in the description.
Behavior Standards
Appropriate behavioral guidelines are established with the goal of not only maintaining the physical and emotional well being of each student but also of teaching self-discipline, judgement, and manners. Positive disciplinary methods are used to enforce these guidelines. Parents are kept informed of problems as they arise and may be asked to follow through at home in special situations. If program staff determines that a child interferes with the learning of other students, cannot benefit from the program, or presents a danger to other children, parents will be requested to withdraw the child.
Food Service
Snacks and water from home are encouraged. Aramark Services operates the campus cafeteria, 7am-2pm, Mon-Thu during the summer. Breakfast, lunch and snacks are available.
Illness and Emergencies
Once registered, Emergency/Medical forms will be sent to you. You can also download copies by clicking here. These forms MUST be completed and returned to the Division of Continuing Education one week prior to the first day of class. Your child may only begin class if forms are returned.
- Children who are ill should not come to class. Illnesses include a running nose, cough, red throat, unexplained rashes, swollen glands, head or stomach aches or a fever.
- If a child becomes ill or injured at PVCC, the parent or designated guardian will be notified promptly and will be expected to pick up their child from the program immediately. Parents will be responsible for all costs incurred in such emergencies.
- PVCC staff will administer no medications to your child -- no exceptions.
Class Cancellations
Courses that do not meet a minimum enrollment are subject to cancellation. If this should happen, every effort will be made to notify you by telephone to transfer you to another section, find an alternate course, or process your refund. PVCC reserves the right to cancel classes based on class size, to make other changes as College needs require and to change, without notice, any of the information, requirements, and regulations published in this schedule of classes.
Refund Policy
If a parent/guardian cancels registration, a full refund will be granted if PVCC is notified by 5pm on the Wednesday prior to the class start date (June 4 or July 2). A $25 nonrefundable processing fee will be assessed for cancellations received after this time. All fees are non-refundable after the class starts. Mad Science classes on page 10 have different refund policies. If an entire class is cancelled by the College, you will be entitled to a full refund. CAAP refund procedures are different from general Kids College classes and linked from the CAAP page.
PUMA PIT STOP
Kids College staff supervise students at all times. Students who are taking a single morning or afternoon class have the option to enroll in the supervised lunch hour (Puma Pit Stop), however, students enrolled in both morning and afternoon classes are required to enroll in the Pit Stop, after which they are escorted to afternoon classes. Meals from home are encouraged, however the cafeteria has meals available for $3-$7. No additional extended day options are available for students in the morning or evening. Your child must have completed first grade to enroll in classes that would keep him/her on campus all day.
