PVCC Faculty Jazz Ensemble Tribute to Miles Davis (CPA)
Details:
Location: PVCC Center for the Performing Arts, Mainstage Theatre Admission: $12 Adults; $10 Seniors; $8 Students; $6 Children Box Office/Information: (602)787-7738 In the latest installment of their ongoing series celebrating the greats of jazz, the Faculty Jazz Ensemble of Paradise Valley Community College will be featuring the music of both Miles Davis and john Coltrane, presenting selections from the box set The Complete Columbia Recordings: Miles Davis & John Coltrane. The ensemble will present the duo’s music on Saturday, September 15th in the Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of PVCC. These two giants of jazz set the standard for modern jazz performance and much of their work together is chronicled in these recordings. The cornerstone of this box set is the iconic Kind of Blue, perhaps critically and commercially the greatest jazz album of all time. Released in 1959 this classic recording showcases their work together and highlights their contrasting playing styles. The inherent tension and balance between their styles would be a key consideration in the success if this music. Davis with his economical approach, choosing just the right notes and a careful approach to phrasing being an excellent foil to Coltrane’s more liberal application of notes, often working as much with texture and density as he did with melody. Tickets are available through the Center for the Performing Arts Box Office, open Tuesday through Friday from 12pm to 5pm and one hour prior to showtime. |
