Partners in Art

spacer November 5, 2005
As taken by substitute secretary, Yvonne Beech.

President Lacey had the following to report after everyone had introduced themselves:
  • We have a website that is networked through Paradise Valley Community College, to which we’d like to add more. One suggestion was pictures of projects we’ve done around the campus.
  • She made flyers about the meeting and posted them on the campus kiosks, but noone noticed them. The group consensus was person-to-person contact is a more successful way to gain interest in our group.
  • She’d like us to focus more on our group mission statement, building our artistic voice at PVCC.
  • Empty Bowls made $1,300.00 in the two days we sold them on campus, the money going to the Foothills Food Bank in Carefree. Left over bowls were sent to the Arizona Center, where the Arizona Clay Association sold them at their Empty Bowls Event. The ACA raised $34,000.00, with the money going to the Waste Not organization.
  • She also mentioned that Partners In Art had a display in the cases in the hallway outside the library last month.
The Vice-President reported:
  • November 18th, PVCC is hosting an event called “Adopt-A-Street”
  • On some Tuesday in November is a lunch with the Professors, and Lacey is going to attend as the representative for Partners In Art.
  • The Murder Mystery party raised $700.00 for the United Way.

No other Officers were present at the meeting to give reports.

Old Business

Our next meeting is Saturday, December 3rd, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Batik with Josie is the slated activity. There is a maximum of 20 people allowed for this activity, so you need to sign up if you’re interested. There is no cost for this, and everything is provided. Dress in clothes that can get messy.

New Business

Making large, sculptural statement type, origami peace cranes, to hang in the lobby of the new PAC was discussed, and felt to be in the realm of possibility of achieving.

In order to create more interest in Partners In Art, flyers and postcards for teachers to hand out to students in class was felt to have the most chance of success. It was also felt that a full calendar should be shown, not just the next meeting.

Next semester’s meetings were discussed as follows:
  • Saturday, February 4, 2006: Ikebana with Ping
  • Saturday, March 4, 2006: Raku
  • Saturday, April 1, 2006: Origami

  • May – open for later discussion. Two popular possibilities were Make-A-Tee-Shirt and Finger painting.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:54.

Ping had examples of Ikebana containers and pictures of Ikebana, and discussed the art form. Prikash had pictures of henna painting and stencils and supplies. After discussing that art form, everyone got busy rolling out clay and squeezing henna on themselves, each other – even David dressed up his arms!
