Description:
The Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Music Business program is an innovative curriculum designed to prepare students for today's music industry. The certificate and degree with a music business emphasis are designed for both the performing musician and the business student with limited performing experience. This program combines a flexible curriculum with an emphasis in business and marketing, along with music industry related courses and experiences.

- Explain the components of the "marketing mix" as they interact in the total marketing environment. (MKT271)
- Apply music notation including pitch, meter, scales, key signatures, intervals, triads, time signatures, and rhythm. (MTC101)
- Apply procedures to copyright a song, publish it, and select an appropriate performance rights agency. (MUC109, MUC110)
- Locate and use different levels of music industry professionals including entertainment attorneys, managers, agents, and concert promoters. (MUC109, MUC110)
- Market musical products in such areas as music arranging/composing, score preparation, recording technology, audio engineering, postproduction for film and television, and the advertising industry. (MUC109, MUC110)
- Apply digital audio editing and recording using the digital audio software. (MUC111)
- Use recording studio components: speakers, signal processing equipment and electronic keyboards and Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) equipment in a studio recording session. (MUC195)
- Apply skills for marketing songs, recordings, and musical performances and develop a portfolio of such products for self-promotion. (MUC295AA)
- Integrate human relations, communication, and technical skills as an intern in an appropriate business or industry. (MUC297AB)
- Develop a chart of accounts using an acceptable account numbering system, set up individual accounts for customers and creditors, and establish individual payroll records for employees, and print month-end reports and documents on a microcomputer system. (SBS230)
- Explain the functions of a music business in the areas of entrepreneurship, the digital age, e-commerce, industry leadership, visionary development and the collaboration process. (MUC209)
