Requirements for Instructor Certification

 Minimum Qualifications:

• Academic Teaching Fields: Master's in any teaching field with 24 upper division and/or graduate semester hours in the teaching field or Master's in a teaching field with 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field or Master's in the teaching field. EDU 250 Overview of the Community Colleges or equivalent must be completed within a two year period.
• Occupational Teaching Fields: Same qualifications as those listed for Academic Teaching or Bachelor's + 3 years of work experience in field to be taught or Associate's or 64 semester hours and 5 years work experience in field to be taught or 5 years experience in field to be taught. EDU 250 Overview of the Community Colleges or equivalent must be completed within a two year period. • Additional Qualifications: The additional qualifications that have been recommended by Instructional Councils for Computer Science, Counseling, Electronics, Library Science, Mathematics, Nuclear Medical Technology (HCIES), Nursing (HCIES IC), and Religious Studies and that have previously been approved by the Governing Board will continue to be recognized.
• Evaluation of Faculty Credentials: Each Maricopa Community College reserves the right to evaluate faculty credentials and determine equivalencies for stated qualifications for adjunct and occupational faculty (this stipulation will apply to current and any new faculty who hold Special and District-specific certificates).

Faculty members who currently hold Arizona Lifetime, Regular, and Provisional Certificates will be grandfathered. Faculty members who hold Provisional certificates must complete EDU 250 Overview of the Community Colleges. Instructors must complete EDU 250 Overview of the Community Colleges within a two year period.
