What is the Federal Work-Study Program?
Federal Work Study (FWS) is a program funded by the federal government and is designed to help students gain valuable work experience and supplement their income while attending school. A FWS position is treated just like a normal job, so you must follow proper employee etiquette.

Job Duties: Provides general office support in Career Services Center.  Greets and welcomes visitors to Career Services, assists with student/ community member intake; Answers telephones/takes messages/schedules appointments or directs callers to other departments as appropriate; Assists diverse students/community members, PVCC employees, and potential employers with general questions and; Assists job seekers with job search computerized tools (i.e. upload a resume/cover letter, online job search and other online career programs); Inputs jobs/internships into database; Creates fliers using Microsoft Excel, Publisher or Adobe Illustrator/InDesign; Helps maintain WIOA database; Assists with other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Computer proficiency required to assist clients without computer skills. Prefer completion of CIS105 or BPC110 or equivalent experience (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to accurately communicate career services resources, policies, and procedures to diverse students, community members, and employers in person or in writing.
  • Customer Service experience/friendly/dependable
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality/professionalism/willingness to learn

Duties:

  • Provide first contact customer service (in person and telephone) in Advising office;
  • Respond to student email inquiries;
  • Provide students with general information related to advising;
  • Provide support assistance to New Student Orientation and Advising staff; 
  • Responsible for collecting and inputting outreach event data;
  • Responsible for maintaining marketing material in Transfer Center;
  • Maintain and organize advisement area, including department printing and copying;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications *:

  • Must have a complete 2015-16 FAFSA on file and have financial need;
  • Must be enrolled in at least six (6) credit hours;
  • Must meet satisfactory academic progress (SAP);
  • Have experience providing customer service;
  • Have basic clerical experience;
  • Have strong organizational skills;
  • Have strong verbal, and written communication skills.

Pay:

  • $10.00 – $12:00 per hour depending on experience and successful completion of initial training and probation period.

Job Title: America Reads, America Counts Tutor
Department: Office of Financial Assistance
Pay Rate: $10.00 per hour
Hours per week: P/T, up to 20 hours/ week, between 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Job Duties/ Qualifications: Tutor for Elementary school children in Reading and Math. Position is off campus, reliable transportation is required. Applicant must be reliable, have good communication skills, able to work well with children. All applicants must comply with health and safety requirements, including but not limited to fingerprinting, background checks and health screening.
