Course Descriptions
Kung Fu Kung Fu is a 1500 year old tradition of the martial arts of China. This course will teach seven basic styles of Kung Fu. It promotes both health and self defense benefits, and expands the student's knowledge, and appreciation for Asian culture traditions.

QiGong Qigong is an ancient Chinese healing and meditative exercise discipline that involves body movements and postures, mental relaxation, and controlled breathing. This Qigong class includes sitting, standing, and moving techniques, and will focus on the six healing sounds. This class is very appropriate for senior adults. Back to Schedule.

RAD

An introduction to the RAD training Program: Effective Use of Non-Lethal Forces. RAD stands for Restrain, Arrest , and Detain. Basic instruction on Shaolin Chin Na techniques necessary in close quarter situations to quickly restrain, physically arrest, and safely detain protocol violators. Back to Schedule.

Tai Chi

Teaches the fundamentals of Tai Chi including the moves, rules, and traditional discipline of the sport. Prerequisites: None. This program uses innovative techniques for health and stress management. Tai chi movements combined with music and breathing bring about a state of relaxation, and also strengthen muscles, reduce weight, increase flexibility, strengthen the cardiovascular system, and promote total well-being. Feldenkrais® Through gentle movements, the Feldenkrais Method will help you re-connect with your natural ability to move and relax. It is especially help full for people with recurrent body discomfort brought on by stress, misuse, accidents, or illness. Pilates

An exercise program that aims at developing a stable core for all types of movement to occur more efficiently. Pilates teaches you about breathing with movement, body mechanics, balance, coordination positioning of the body, spatial awareness, strength and flexibility. Pilates is an all-encompassing mind, body and spirit exercise. May be repeated for credit. Prerequisites: None.

Cardio Sculpt Plus
A 60 minute workout that provides you with a variety of formats that include circuit training using hand weights, elastic tubes, medicine balls, step training, and powerwalking. Back to Summer Schedule
Aerobics for Seniors

Formatted for older adults with music and class tempo appropriate for those over age 55. Includes flexibility exercises, cardiovascular conditioning, and strengthening and toning exercises. Back to Schedule.

Low Impact Aerobics

Provides a challenging cardiovascular workout. Modifications will be shown to increase or decrease intensity and impact. Emphasis is on FUN! All ages are welcome! Back to Schedule.

Silver Sneakers

This class is taught with a chair which is used for both seated exercises and for support during standing exercises. Taught with a variety of resistance tools to be used according to the skill level of each student: handheld weights (1-5 lbs), elastic tubing and balls. Students must be a qualified Silver Sneaker Participant or registered in the Fitness Center in order to participate. There is no additional fee or registration for this course. Back to Schedule.

Golf

Course covers basic terms, rules, and regulations, how to hold the club, proper stance, putting the ball, and fundamentals of chipping and pitching the ball. Students must supply their own golf clubs. Students must pay additional green fees directly to the golf course. The first class of each section will meet in room F-130. All of the 2nd class meetings will be on the Paradise Valley Golf Course.

East & West Coast Swing Get introduced to the new dance craze! Learn all styles of Swing, including the West Coast Swing style. Have fun while exercising.
Ballroom Theory and practice of ballroom dance. Development of movement quality and performance skills individually, with a partner, or in a group setting. May include Salsa, Mambo, Cha Cha Cha, Merenque, Rumba, East Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, West Coast Swing, Foxtrot, Waltz, American Tango, International Ballroom, or Ballroom performance.
Latin Theory and practice of Latin Dance. Development of movement quality and performance skills individually, with a partner, or in a group setting. May include Salsa Mambo, Cha Cha Cha, Merenque, Rumba, Bachata, International Latin Ballroom, or Latin Ballroom or Latin Ballroom Performance.
Tango Theory and practice of Tango Dance. Development of movement quality and performance skills individually, with a partner, or in a group setting. May include Argentine Tango, American Tango or International Style Tango.
Ballet

Introduction to the theory and practice of ballet at the beginning level. Development of movement quality and performance skills. Prerequisites: None.
