Course Title
Course Description
Aikijujitsu

This system is composed of a unique blend of different forms of martial arts, including karate, Jung Fu, Kempo and boxing. The primary focus will be on the forms aikido and jujitsu. May be repeated for credit. Back to Schedule.

Aromatherapy Phisiology of aromathereapy; methods of use; preparation of oils; uses in sports, beauty care, massage, child care, health care at work, and in home. Prerequisites: None. Additional Course Fee: $33. Back to Schedule
Self Defense:
Shaolin
Kung Fu Wushu

Shaolin Kung Fu is a 1500 year old tradition of the martial arts of china. This course will teach seven basic styles of Kung Fu, with special emphasis on Wushu, the art of fighting dancing. It promotes both health and self defense benefits, and expands the student's knowledge, and appreciation for Asian cultural traditions. Back to Schedule.

Chi Kung (Qi Gong)

The ancient Chinese healing and mediative exercise discipline that involves body movement and posture, mental relaxation and controlled breathing. This Chi Kung class includes sitting, standing, and moving techniques, and will focus on 6 healing sounds. This class is very appropriate for senior adults.Back to Schedule.

Tai Chi(Taiji Qi gong)

Qigong, in Chinese means energy cultivation. It is one of the self-healing traditions in China. Composed of healing postures, movement methods, self-massage, brething techniques, relaxation, and meditation, Tai Chi QiGong contributes to better health. The Tai Chi Qigong exercise is gentle, low-impact, suitable for everyone. Seniors welcome! May be repeated for credit. Back to Schedule.

Teaches the fundamentals of Tai Chi including the moves, rules, and traditional discipline of the sport. Prerequisites: None. This program uses innovative techniques for health and stress management. Tai chi movements combined with music and breathing bring about a state of relaxation, and also strengthen muscles, reduce weight, increase flexibility, strengthen the cardiovascular system, and promote total well-being. Yoga Flow

Yoga - Restorative

Restorative yoga poses are "active relaxation" poses. By supporting the body with props, we alternately stimulate and relax the body to move toward balance. The poses create specific physiological responses, which are beneficial to health and can reduce the effects of stress-related disease. Yoga - Special Bodies

Designed to present modified yoga postures for those who have special physical limitations such as arthritis, back stiffness, obesity, and pregnancy, to name a few. Written doctor's release may be required. If you can move, you can do yoga! Beginners welcome. Recommended for senior adults also.

Overview of wellness and its relationship to personal health. Understanding of personal wellness through lifestyle assessments. Introduction to wellness and health-related topics including fitness, relationships, nutrition, self care, abusive behaviors, mind/body connection, and other current issues in health. Introduction of
Alternative Medicine

Definition of health; exploration of mind-body-spirit connection in health; various therapeutic modalities; identification of strengths and limitations of alternative therapies. Meditation and Wellness

Physiology of meditation and its effects on physical and mental health; scholastic abilities and interpersonal relationships; differentiation between meditation and other relaxation techniques. Prerequisites: None. Back to Schedule.

Herbal Remedies
History and evolution of herbs for healing applications. Preparation, usage, and effects of certain herbs used for healing purposes. Basic literature review skills in the area of herbal medicine. Back to Schedule.
Overview of Feldenkrais Awareness Movement

Through gentle movements, Feldenkrais method helps you re-connect with natural ability to move and relax. It's especially useful for people with recurrent body discomfort brought on by stress, misuse, accidents or illness. It's equally beneficial for people who want to improve their performance both physically and mentally. Prerequisites: None. Back to Schedule.

Minimizing Workplace Stress

Intro of Practical Relaxation Techniques for reducing workplace stress. Defines the characteristics, process and signs of workplace stress. Includes discussions of the physiology of stress and how these responses impact daily living. Use of biofeedback to monitor the relaxation techniques such as self-hypnosis, visualization, guided imagery, and meditation. Prerequisities: None. Back to Schedule.

Auditory Meditation

Focuses on East Indian Yoga (Siddha) and Ayurvedic (Transendental) meditation traditionsand use of mantras, sounds and music in meditation. Discussion of Vedanta System of Philosophy and the Bhagavad Gita. Explores the history and popualrity of auditory meditations, and scientific research into the health benefits of Transendental Meditation (TM) and other auditory meditations.
