Explore Your Future HS Students

It is never too early to begin thinking about and planning for your teen’s future. “EXPLORE, Get a GRIP on Your Future” has been developed through our partnership to offer you and your teen an opportunity to strategically plan for the future by providing the support needed to make informed decisions leading to academic success. Student success has been defined in a number of ways including academic grades, retention, completion, and attainment of academic goals. Student engagement has been noted in educational research to be a key component in student success. PVCC has adopted an easy to remember acronym to promote student success through engagement on its campus, GET a GRIP (Goals, Relationships, Information, and Participation). These components will be the foundation for events related to this program. Utilizing the results from the EXPLORE test, parent and student seminars, summer programs, and dual enrollment courses will be aligned with identifi ed needs and interests throughout their high school education and beyond.
During the academic year, PVCC will be presenting 8 parent/student seminars and events to help students become aware of the services and programs available to help them make their careers become a reality through academic planning. In addition, a two week summer session will be available offering an opportunity to earn college credit through concurrent enrollment in the college success course, AAA115, and other career related courses. The Foothills Community Foundation will continue to offer Junior Achievement “It’s My Business”. This program is designed to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. Through hands-on activities students will be encouraged to use critical thinking to learn entrepreneurial skills that support positive attitudes as they explore and enhance their career aspirations in the areas of business and fi nance. The program provides a strong focus on social studies, reading, and writing skills throughout these activities.
The remainder of the summer program is based on the results of the current EXPLORE test. Teens will be provided an opportunity for active and engaged career exploration and learn about the forecasted demand of careers identifi ed by the Explore test. Preparation for the core academic areas of reading, writing, and math will be addressed as they relate to specific careers through real life applications. Participation in these activities provides an opportunity for young people to develop their portfolios that they will use to validate their knowledge and experience as they embark on the college and scholarship application processes. Student/parent seminars throughout the academic year are provided free as a service to the community’s youth. This program is designed to provide support for all students developing individual potential and aptitude to succeed in their academic endeavors.
We hope that you will take advantage of the sessions offered. The links below have more information on sessions and additional events throughout the year.
