Title: Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Foundation: Inst
Funding Source: Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Foundation
Scope: The purpose of this program is to support nonprofit organizations that foster educational activities related to the film industry, and encourage an appreciation of motion pictures as a viable art form and vocation. Within this program, the foundation has established a separate internship funding vehicle. These funds enable academic institutions to provide interested students with the means to learn about the film industry via hands-on training and education.
For the internship grants, all monies awarded are to be used by interns for stipends, travel, housing, or per diem expenses.
Areas: * Craft Workshops and Conferences, in which college students and/or adults are trained in one or more of the various craft fields of film production (e.g., directing, cinematography, screenwriting, editing, etc.).
* Internship Programs, in which college students are placed in professional environments outside of their schools, either on film productions or in film-related offices.
* Library and Archival Projects, in which the papers of filmmakers are preserved and/or made available to the public.
* Screening Programs, especially those in which filmmakers interact with audiences.
* Seminar Programs, in which film professionals discuss their work and/or particular aspects of the creation and distribution of films.
* Teacher Training Programs, in which production techniques and/or film appreciation information (in the broadest sense) is presented for teachers to take back to their classrooms.
* Training/Bridge Programs, in which college students and/or adults are trained for and then placed in film industry jobs. This includes mentoring programs.
* Visiting Artist Programs, especially those in which a filmmaker spends several days in residence at a college, university or media center.
Funds: An unspecified amount of funding is available to support awards through this program.
